2nd row lifters doesn't sit in all the way but why?

My mecahnic ran into a weird situation. After getting my new lifters and having them installed it seems that the 2nd row lifters I think 2-3 of them can't fit all the way in, but the front row lifters all drop in easily. Now one cam is a HKS and the other to the top is a stock cam, that's what the car came with when purchased. Here's where it gets stranger, when my mechanic takes a light metal tool to check whats blocking one of the lifters from sitting in, something magnetic to the bottom pulls the light tool to it. I don't know what metal is down there, my mechanic sure doesn't either but this 1g head came ported as well. If I can get some answers to this and resolve this weirdness I wouldn't have spend to get another head and port it. Too much money and time wasting getting me frustrated. Some help would be so greatly appreciated thanks.
 
Sounds like there is a steel HLA shim in there, commonly used when thare has been reground cams installed.

where the HLA sits ia aluminmn, so a magnet should not pull any thing.

Check for the shims and remove them.
 
Exactly correct, my mechanic said bolt washers were down in there but it was fixed but not the head. Turns out the head is no good because once the engine ran oil spurted out some hole in the valve cover and some other areas...time for a new head.
 
I'd find what shot oil before getting a new head. A valve cover leak is not grounds for a new head.
 
Get a better idea of where the oil is shooting out, it just may be a missing an oil galley plug.
see if you can post a pic of where the oil is comming out.

Oill is not just going to spirt out, is this a 1g or 2 g head?

Where is the oil feed for the turbo from? the ofh? or the pass side of the head?
