hello I just bought a talon from a family member with the only mechanical issue being a battery. The car would only start on a jump so I didn't realize the problem until today after I put the new battery in...

so as soon as my negative connector hits the top post of the battery, my radiator fans both turn on and remain on even after I've removed the key from the ignition

possibly faulty fan relay? anyone can point me where to find this relay or how to get my fans to shut off. After im done driving I have to remove negative connector in order to get fans to shut off.

Do you not have the relay box cover? It has labels for all of them. The one under the hood, I mean.

It doesn't have a cover, if your referring to the tray of fuses and relays on the front right hand side of when you open the hood. but I didn't take the time to look through them all and try to find anything that looks like a fan relay when I went to check.

plan on taking a look tomorrow, would this relay be the cause of the problem? and what can I expect if I just pull it off and drive around like that? I would assume the fans just won't power at all. I live in northwest indiana so temperatures are ranging from 0 degrees to 35ish degrees this time of year.

If you drive without the relay the fans will not work at all.

Some people hardwire their fans so that they're on all the time when the ignition is on, but I've never heard of having them on all the time (with ignition off).

Before you spend money on a relay trace back your fan wiring to make sure they still go to the stock location. If they have been tampered with then just put them back to the stock locations. If they haven't then it most likely is this relay.

Good luck!

Did this problem start one day or did the car come like this? Did the previous owner wire in new fans?

The car was motor swapped with a new engine so im sure the fans were wired in. when I bought the car it would only start with a jump, as soon as jumper cables touched the battery the fans cut on. I slightly noticed but didn't think much of it until I replaced my battety and then the fans came on instantly before I even turned my car on

but I played with the relays and pulled them out and suddenly now neither of my fans work even if I turn the ac on

That's because the relays supply power to the fans. My guess is the relays are hooked up wrong and are supplying constant power to the fans.

sorry I forgot to add that I put the relays back right after I pulled em out and now my fans are a no go even with a.c.
