Hello

I have a new battery, starter and alternator but sometimes when I get in to start the car it just clicks. After a few minutes I can get the car to start, my tuner thinks it’s the starter relay behind the radio. I’ve heard you can bypass it and just connect the wires together and have it unplugged from the relay itself.

I have the clutch switch disconnected but the tutorials I’ve seen mention other colour wires then what I have to bypass. Can anyone chime in, I think the harness is a 95 awd

I can tell you that the relay with white 8-position connector pictured is the no. 1 power door lock relay.

The relay you pictured is on the passenger side of the center console. The starter relay should be more towards the driver side and is a 4-position connector for a harness from a manual transmission vehicle and a 5-position connector for a harness from an auto.

This thread has some reference photos but also some notes as to the bypass only working for M/T vehicles so it may be worthwhile verifying what harness you have (I forget all the details of your particular situation): https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/2g-what-is-this-relay-p-n-starter-relay.374262/#post-152245662

Will take a look this evening. My battery light won’t go off either, would that be a symptom of it or could that be a ground? Battery is fully charged
Battery light is associated with the alternator. If the alternator is not exciting, the battery light will show this. That is the basics of it.

Looks like it might be the alternator. Car is running on straight battery, volt meter hooked up to the alternator it’s fluctuating from 4v up to 26 and when it goes to 4v that’s when the battery light is coming on.

Can you find new replacement relays still? Might be worth changing while I have everything apart anyways.

Your Regulator shot it's wad in the alternator, so you could rebuild it, and, you can make your own starter relay very easy with a 4 or 5 pole 30 amp relay from the parts store if it is only used for the starter. Just options.

Got the alternator replaced with a 90amp and the car seems to fire up great now but the battery light is still flickering on and off. Relay for the alternator has also been replaced and the car has a brand new battery, not sure what else it could be. Maybe ECU.

I’ve attached a video showing the voltage at idle which is hitting 17, shouldn’t this be closer to 12 so it doesn’t overcharge the battery? Car also seems to be idle surging when the voltage spikes up.

We also noticed that the starter is sticking and it’s new, not sure if a failing relay would do that?

Video here of the voltage spiking on the alternator
