I just swapped my oil filter housing last night with a different one I bought. I only swapped because I used silicone and instead of a razor blade I used a scotch pad on my air tool. I'm not proud of it so it all got replaced with a new gasket and no silicone and an oem unit all torqued. I changed nothing from how it was before and now my oil pressure is at 100 psi cold (70 degrees in my garage). Even my stock gauge is almost pegged to the top and none of this was like this before. I made sure everything was stupid clean. The only thing I changed was instead of 5w30 I beleive I used 5w40, I only use the car in the summer. I'm a little confused what made anything different unless something with the relief valve is different. Before all of this it was 70 psi cold.

You were dead on that plunger is stuck in there. My old one slid right out but this one will not budge I may have to take the whole deal off again which kind of sucks.
It's possible you may have have 2 different pressure relief springs (low pressure and high pressure). Also, it's possible the plunger could be sticking and not allowing it to relief the pressure. Last, do you know if the both housing were completely unmodified. It could be that the relief plunger relief hole has been modified on the old housing and not on the new housing.

All super possible I guess I didn't check anything I just made sure I did everything to a T the second time. I'll check when I get home. I'm hoping I don't have to tear it all back down, easiest thing is I'll check everything on the old housing first. I'm guessing if the springs are different one will be shorter or is there no difference?

I'll give it a look thanks for the reply. I've been personally researching high oil pressure but nothing comes up to what I have. I didn't change really anything so thats why I'm confused.
