hey, i am going to be upgrading soon to a 2g MAF and i was wondering if i should wait until i get 560 injectors and a set up for MAF-T.

anyways i guess the question i am going to ask is if i run the 2g MAF without MAF-T or SAF-C or something will it run rich or anything?

ok so im just gonna go ahead and find a set of 550's, drop them in with the 2g maf and hope she runs good. thanks a ton everyone for your input! i appreciate it a ton, i love these cars and im trying to learn as much about them as i can since i just picked up my 1g earlier this year. shes gonna be an absolute beast eventually!
oh and habitatguy187, what would happen if i ran out of fuel with those injectors? i dont plan to do it, but i'd still like to know

Well there's a few different things that can happen when you run too lean, but basically fuel helps keep the heat down, too much heat in the cylinders = nasty consequences. Check out this wiki, it's pretty decent. Engine knocking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If that were true you could drop 650's in and literally have little to no correction. We know that's not the case as I ran 450's with a 2G MAS for years and there are guys using 550's that say they're still a tad rich, showing that the -17% I gave may be more like -12% or -15%.

I stumbled across it today.

The 2G MAS actually flows closer to 30% more airflow for the same Karman frquency as a 1G MAS:

A lot of people say 20%, because it roughly compensates for adding 550's, but that isn't exactly true. It is also leaning you out slightly, which is a good thing considering the rich factory AFR maps.
But, the biggest problem a lot of people forget about is that the ECU also uses the airflow Hz to decide which maps to use. So, when you remove almost 30% of the airflow with a 2G MAS the ECU is way off on the timing. When you are at 15psi, the ECU thinks you are only at 5-6 lbs of boost, so it uses maps that are way too aggressive for 15psi. The result is that you have to add a ton more fuel to keep the knock under control, and the amount of boost you can run on pumpgas is very limited by the knock.
That is why the only *right* way to run a 2G MAS is with a chip or DSMLink. Every piggyback out there, including an AFC, VPC, MAFT, or even the fancy Lebeaux unit, work by reducing the airflow signal to the ECU, which screws up your maps. That is fine with racegas, where the extra timing helps, but it is a huge limiting factor if you are trying to run a lot of boost on pumpgas.
