Evo 3 16g, evo 3 o2 housing (heavily ported), evo3 manifold (heavily ported), walboro 255,3in turboback exhaust, perrin mbc-These are the mods that I have on my car, but my 1g maf got soaked w water, so its trashed now. I have a 2g maf with pipe, filter harness etc that is installed and works good, but I was wondering if I would be able to run my car with the 2g maf on my stock 450cc injectors until my 550s get here this week.

You can, just take it easy, 2g maf flows more air, might get lean, but i would get a logger, while our at it, a tuing device of some sort, its not just drop them in and go, a gm maft would help. Or wait until you have the tuning devices you need until you do the swap, got a wideband? Link, is also a great investment, regardless of where you are at with your car, i wish i would have bought that first, rather than just buying stuff, because i was so excited, i wish i would have taken my time and bought things as i needed.

I do have an safc, but I havent installed it yet because I dont understand how to tune with it. I have Lucas 550's that I ordered that should be here either today or tomorrow. And I have 650 FIC's on hand as well. I would love to be able to drop in the 650s and the 2g maf and tune it with the safc, but I dont understand how to tune it. so im probably going to drop in the 550s with the 2g maf and hope that it works out, and if it doesnt I will sell the 550s, 650s,2g maf and safc then just buy another 1g maf and put my 450s back in and call it good.

Drove my '92 TSi FWD for over a year like that- not a single issue. It seemed a little lean while cruising off-boost and would sometimes pop through the exhaust between shifts when you weren't in boost, but ran great otherwise.

I had the 2g maf but i never installed it, wasnt sure how to tune it so i got the gm maft instead, those are a good combo 550s and the 2g maf in the 1g.

I put the 2g maf on, and took it for a test drive. It pulls way harder than the 1g thats for sure. Not sure how to tell if its running lean though. If I drop in the 650s and hook up the safc, which settings would I tune the safc to so that it will account for the 2g maf and the 650s? Im just afraid to hook up the safc without knowing how to adjust the settings. I bought it used and have no instruction manual or anything with it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all of the advice so far

i say you should be safe for now. the 2g maf tends to lean out your mix and with your mods im going to guess you are running a little rich as it is so you should be fine. do you have a wideband hooked up and if so where you sitting at with the 2g maf on. is the wideband reading lean.if you dont have a WB then you can also get a scent from the exhaust to get an idea if it is running rich still.hope this helps.i was going the route of 2g maf but decided to go the opposite direction and go with GM mafT ;)

Honestly now that im running the 2g maf it hits boost instantly with no build up and when i let off it will start making a popping sound sometimes.im thinking i might be running lean?Idk im thinking about putting in the 650s just to see what happens?

When i throw in my 550s and safc with my 2g maf and the other mods in already,255 walbro,evo3 16g,3 in turboback no cat, mbc, ported evo3 mani and o2 what type of setting do y'all feel will be ideal on my 1g with with my safc.I dont have a wideband but have access to a palm logger.I also have 650 fic's,i might have asked this but are they better for my set up than 550s.i guess the main thing is that i dont know what settings im looking for wiith the 550s and 2g maf on my safc?:confused:confused:

ok i found a link to help you alot if you dont know how to set up and tune with a SAFC. SAFC Install and Tuning

Thanks man. Thats exactly what I needed

Well i went ahead and installed the 550's and my car still seemed to hesitate and sputter really mildly but not as bad as with the 450's.Then i pulled out the 550's and put in the 650 fic's and wow!! The way i can best describe it is it is just as smooth as it was when it was stock with just a k&n filer but WAYY more pull like throw ya iback in the seat hard type pull, even at 12lbs.It doesnt hesitate or pop in decelleration like it did with my mods and the 450's.I expect to have a way easy tune tommorow when i hook up the safc and use the logger. My fmic is supposed to be here tommorow so i have one question, should i wait to tune with the safc till after i hook up the fmic or vice versa. My philosophy is to do one mod at a time so that if something goes wrong its easier to retrace your steps.which should i do first y'all?? MODS-Evo3 16g,evo3 manifold{ported},evo3 02{ported},walbro 255,3inch turbo back{no cat},2g maf,650 fic's,mbc. so fmic or sfac next or doesnt it matter? sorry y'all obviously i'm still a newbie and learning as i go.

i think you should put the fmic on and then tune. you will be adding more air to the mix. you got your higher rate of fuel with the 650ccs now u will have more air with the fmic so just put the front mount on and tune. see how she is and then move to spark. maybe a nice set of coil on plug. take it one step at a time and Do NOT RUSH. things go wrong when you rush it. thats how i blew up my 11 second 1g talon. rushed it wile i was tuning the dsmlink and got pre ignition bad and blew her up bad. :notgood:

Not trying to hijack the thread but I just did the 2g maf swap and even running the 450s noticed a huge differance.

dont run that way to long if you are not tuned with a SAFC or dsmlink you will be running lean, running lean could in the long run kill your motor. put a WB and SAFC on and tune and you will really feel the diffrance. is your car poping and backfireing when you let of the gas or slow down.if so that is a sure sign you r running lean. :hmm:

I dont have a wideband yet but I know it runs a lil rich at low rpm and stops smoking black at higher rpms so its probly lean. I have 560s just didnt put them in yet just did it yesterday. The car isnt plated or legal yet so I doubt im hurting anything, it runs for maby 10 minuets 3 times a week, only driven down the ally.

Nope no poping it dies tho when you come to a fast stop. I have a safc just untuned.

Installed my 560 evo injectors, didnt really notice a differance, still dies when you come to a fast stop. No black smoke either.

tune your SAFC. to me it sound like coming to a stop quick is choking it out because of the mixture. hope this helps

Wow running 450's with a 2g maf on a 1g is not smart. Its going to make you run a lean. You actually will not even know it. At WOT you will run lean and the car will feel just fine, actually should be a little more powerful. But your runnin lean and what happens is the car starts too use the valves as fuel and burn them up. Not good.

yea i say a good set up with a 2g maf is 550 injectors. atleast a 190 fuel pump, a aftermarket fuel pressure reg and a wideband and SAFC. but my personal opinion if you are going to put all that money into it then y not go with a GM MAF-T

550's,2g maf, and at least a 190 fuel pump and you will have your self a good dd. definitely look for a pocket logger or something to watch your fuel trims.

I installed the fmic today.Whoever said that the punishment racing fmic install was a piece of cake was way wrong.I had to do alot of major modifying to get it to work.I no longer have some luxurys that i would have liked to keep but oh well. After the horrific 2 days of installing the fmic with no response from tech support it was a good end result. My car is way more responsive and it looks pretty good as well. After looking at the pics of the vrsf installations i would say the install on the vrsf would be way easier but as far as performance idk.The only reason i compare the two is the similar price range. If i would have had the extra $ i would have gone with ets to support my local guys but it wasnt in the budget.I would say all in all im ok with my purchase, and i cant wait to install the safc and wideband tommorow and turn up the boost a little and see whats up.

My car has a 255 wally aeromotive fpr 560 injectors and apexi safc running the 2gmaf just untuned in the apexi waiting to get a wideband. Like I said This car isnt titled and never gets driven so I highly doubt its going to hurt it I rarely start it let alone drive it. Im waiting till everything is either replaced or gone through before it gets plated.
