Resolved 2g MAF on 1g?

Hey everyone,

I've read that if you install a 2gmaf on a 1g that it can cause you to run lean without a tuner. I have a pocket logger would I be okay with that? I have 560cc evo injectors, 255 walbro, aftermarket fuel pump, Frankenstein 16g, built bottom end arp rods and bearings, supra side mount. I also have an aem wideband just haven't wired it in yet. Was planning on doing the maf and wideband this weekend if I have time but want to be sure that i'll be okay with using the pocket logger or if I should wait till I eventually get link?

The logger is not a tuner, so you have the right parts, just need an AFC or something along those lines to fine-tune the excess fuel with your pump/560s combo.

From what I read and I could be wrong but the 2g maf and 550cc injectors balance each other out.

yeah I keep getting mixed answers from everything I read .. it's confusing the hell out of me, I know I'm running rich at the moment so I was sort of wondering if it would balance things out. I'm also running 19psi and have a straight pipe exhaust if that matters.

Pushing 19psi on a 16g with no wideband or tune? The 2g maf/550 combo would be the least of my worries right now.

Id turn that down to at least 14 before trying to drive that thing again.

But to answer your original question the combo does work and very well at that. I think where people run into the problems is that not all 550's are created equal. Only some brands set the flow rate at 45psi fuel pressure while other use much higher. So be sure to know what fuel pressure the injectors are rated at.

Evo 560's are a common with the combo and i've seen many problems there as well. It seems most run rich, which makes perfect sense as they flow more like 580's. So i wouldn't recommend them.

So just do some basic calculations to figure the exact size injector you need to pair with your fuel pressure regulator to get the 23-28-ish % increase. Since the maf will read 25% lower.

1G MT = 37psi
1G A/T = 43psi
1G NT = 48psi
All 2G turbo cars are 43psi also.

it's not knocking and I've daily driven it like that for going on 2 years with no problem at all. Not worried about it it's all good

I've seen mid 13 afr's and no knock. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with those afr's at wot, but im overly cautious. I also edited my reply a little late answering your op.

my fault it's been a long week... I have 2g maf on there right now.. I have a gm maf that I want to put on... **feeling like a frickin moron..** I don't know what the hell made me think the gm maf was a 2g and how I forgot that I already have one on there....

No worries, my car sat for two years. I had to go back and look at my build thread just to see what i was doing with it .

From what ive seen, the 560's run a bit rich with the 2g maf combo. But you'll know for sure when you get that wideband installed.

If its off a bit and depending on what you have you could swap frp's for a cheap fix.

1G MT = 37psi

I am really sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering what I needed to do to run a 2g maf in my 1g. I have the cable and have soldered the wires and it starts and idles but I have not driven it yet. I have ecm link, are there any settings I need to change? Thanks so much.

Yes switch maf tab to 2g maf and save. Then start tuning/driving

Thanks bro. I have a maf comp tab, do I change it there? Do I need to do anything with the global scaler?

Nope just switch box that says
Base maf type to 2g maf in maf comp tab. Then start your idle and cruise Tunning. Shouldn't have to change much but I don't know everyone's setup is different.
