Well before I start throwing money at this problem, I'm calling for help.

Driving down the street today EVERYTHING shut off. I luckily got into a parking lot and my ignition switch fuse was blown. Swapped it with a good one, it blew right away. Then I jumped it with some wiring and my ignition (right at the steering column) started smoking. I attached a link of what happened to my wiring.

Is this a result of a bad ignition switch or does my problem lay elsewhere?
Where are good places to start to look for a possible short?

I had just installed a coil on plug set up, and I had pinched a wire against the head. It was shorting out on the head. I took my coil on plug off and fixed the wire, and changed a few blown fuses and havent' had a problem in a couple months.

Luv2rally, that is very helpful. But honestly, for anyone having this issue it is related to your ignition shorting out somewhere (coil, transistor, ect), in my case my coil on plug wiring.
Looks like you torched the black wire with a white tracer?

That powers quite a few things, but not a lot is un-fused after the switch, most of those are under hood.

The ECU, VSS, fuel pump relay (includes the fuel pump wiring W/the fuel pump relay energized), ignition coil, ignition capacitor, & power transistor are all powered directly with no protection after the switch. That will be quite a bit to go over & check as in components & wiring harnesses.

Anything that is unprotected from the switch to the load can do that, a bad component or a short in the harness.

Edit, that doesn't include what wiring you may have for a turbo timer/alarm/remote start as well.

Have you recently moved anything around in the engine bay? ie coil pack, alternator, etc. Had a similar issue with a buddies car he had replaced his coil pack and it was grounding through the intake manifold cause the wires weren't clamped down correctly.

Fuses are put in cars to keep the wiring and car safe from shorts and other failures. If the replacement fuse blew right away that should have clued you in that there is a serious problem with the wiring and you need to fix it. Jumping the fuse was a terrible idea and you have now created more damage to the wiring harness you will have to fix. I would start looking for shorts in the harness or melted wires. You can check continuity between ground and the ignition fuse. Im betting you will see continuity and then you can move wires around and try to find where its at.

The smoke is the wire insulation/loom melting going to the ignition, you need to check those out and probably replace those melted wires. You are lucky the car didnt catch fire.

That is very helpful. I blew my injector resistor (the plug on the firewall). I unpluged it and everything is fine. But now my fuel pump turns on with the key on and the car off. I'm assuming i screwed up the fuel pump relay also. Hopefully my ECU is still ok.
