There are a ton of threads on which head flows better and whatnot, but that is not my question. I have a 2g head that is going onto 6 bolt block (2g head has already been prepped for larger studs etc.).

The question is what water pipe to use if I am putting a 14b on. I saw one thread that stated I could put a 1g thermostat housing on with a 1g pipe (with modified or 1g lower radiator hose) or other threads saying that I need to block off coolant lines etc, and another thread saying they were going to tap a hole to the coolant passage in the block (I want to avoid this).

Do any of you guys have any experience with this? Also can I still use a modified 2g oil drain tube, or do I need a 1g oil drain tube for the 14b turbo?

Thanks in advance!

If your using a 2g thermostat housing, use a 2g water pipe. If your using a 1g thermostat housing, use the 1g water pipe.

As for the drain tube, you can use your stock 2g, you'll just need to stretch it slightly. Besides 2g's don't have the rust issue as the 1g drains do.

You can use either 1g thermo/1g wp or 2h thermo/2h wp on a 2gen head. If you want to get rid of the coolant nipples/ports on the wp use a 1g thermostat housing with a 1g non-turbo water pipe (not sure if you want to go this route or not). But it just depends if you want to keep your coolant lines or not & what you have laying around.

You can use a 2g oil drain but just need to slot the bolt holes (turbo side) so you can bolt it up properly to the 14b (If you "modified" it like this you're good to go). :thumb:

Thanks for the replies so far, another quick question. On the 2g block there is a small coolant pipe that comes off with a banjo bolt that connects a water line to the turbo? I am just a little confused on how to get all the coolant lines to the turbo (the 2g pipe/2g thermostat don't have the extra water pipe that comes off for the turbo, and the 1g pipe does).

You need a turbo 1g water pipe, the pipe has a water outlet for the turbo.
Now, what oil cooler are you using, external or internal, If you have the stock set up, then make sure you don't get a 90 water pipe, which it doesn't have the water nipple for the oil cooler, which ever other turbo year pipe will work (1g).

I think that answers my question, yes I will be using the internally cooled oil cooler. Good thing I have an extra 1g turbo water pipe laying around...

You don't need a 1G water pipe, if it's not a hastle for you to just put it on right now like, if nothing's on the block already but If everythings in place and in the car leave the 2g water pipe.

It'd be alot easier to T-OFF from one of the threaded coolant sensor spots to make a new water port, that's what I ended up doing, so the water still hits the sensor and makes a new port for water in, which was all I needed.

ALSO if you deleted your water lines that run to your oil filter housing, you can get rid of those and re-route them for your turbo, or just cap them off and don't let water reach the filter housing, for better cooling & reliability :thumb:
