I searched and found no resolved threads, so I decided to start a new one with the problem I am having.
A few weeks ago my alternator went out and I purchased a brand new one with a life time warranty. I installed it (a hassle to do by myself) and the car started right up. I lost the long bolt when I did my head re-build so I just got one of similar size and put it in. It keeps backing out though.
The other day I was driving to do a tattoo and my srs light came on and the car was loosing power. I would put on the gas and it would stutter and die out. I had my brother give me a jump and I made it to do the work. When I left it started right up because I unplugged the ground wire to save the charge. Half-way home the srs light came on again and I was loosing power.
The lights would dim and when I would try to give it gas it would stutter and want to die. If I barely step on the gas it would go but very slow. I made it home. the next day I went to pick-n-pull and got the bolt. I put it on and tightened everything down. The car started right up. I drove to a friends house and on the way home the lights would not work (it was night time).
About 2/3 way home the car turned off. I had the jump start box with me so I jumped it and it started and when I went to unplug the box it died. I did it a couple more times and it stayed on so I hurried up and tried to make it home. I made it about two miles before it did it again. I jumped it again and made it four blocks away from the house. This time it wouldn't stay on no matter how many times I tried to jump it with the box. So what I had to do to make it home, was I had to leave it on and close the hood with the box still connected just to make it home.
I havent tried to drive it since then. I dont want to keep to having to jump it. I'am really at a loss of what to do. I tried to atleast start it and nothing. I got the battery tested the day I bought the alternator and it was good. I bought it about a week ago give or take a couple of days. Yesterday I checked the fuse and it is good. I even tried to do something I read in a thread (it mentioned to try and use just the positive or negative on the jumper box and see what side is not getting what, I tried both) and nothing happened. I had to use both positive and negative to get it started. It sounds good and stayed on but when I unplug or turn off the box it dies instantly. I read up about checking voltage and so on but I dont have a meter nor can I afford to get one for I'am homeless at the moment.
It also makes a ticking noise by the radio sometimes when i try to start it after it dies. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you all ahead of time for the suggestions and words of knowledge.
