I searched and found no resolved threads, so I decided to start a new one with the problem I am having.
A few weeks ago my alternator went out and I purchased a brand new one with a life time warranty. I installed it (a hassle to do by myself) and the car started right up. I lost the long bolt when I did my head re-build so I just got one of similar size and put it in. It keeps backing out though.
The other day I was driving to do a tattoo and my srs light came on and the car was loosing power. I would put on the gas and it would stutter and die out. I had my brother give me a jump and I made it to do the work. When I left it started right up because I unplugged the ground wire to save the charge. Half-way home the srs light came on again and I was loosing power.
The lights would dim and when I would try to give it gas it would stutter and want to die. If I barely step on the gas it would go but very slow. I made it home. the next day I went to pick-n-pull and got the bolt. I put it on and tightened everything down. The car started right up. I drove to a friends house and on the way home the lights would not work (it was night time).
About 2/3 way home the car turned off. I had the jump start box with me so I jumped it and it started and when I went to unplug the box it died. I did it a couple more times and it stayed on so I hurried up and tried to make it home. I made it about two miles before it did it again. I jumped it again and made it four blocks away from the house. This time it wouldn't stay on no matter how many times I tried to jump it with the box. So what I had to do to make it home, was I had to leave it on and close the hood with the box still connected just to make it home.
I havent tried to drive it since then. I dont want to keep to having to jump it. I'am really at a loss of what to do. I tried to atleast start it and nothing. I got the battery tested the day I bought the alternator and it was good. I bought it about a week ago give or take a couple of days. Yesterday I checked the fuse and it is good. I even tried to do something I read in a thread (it mentioned to try and use just the positive or negative on the jumper box and see what side is not getting what, I tried both) and nothing happened. I had to use both positive and negative to get it started. It sounds good and stayed on but when I unplug or turn off the box it dies instantly. I read up about checking voltage and so on but I dont have a meter nor can I afford to get one for I'am homeless at the moment.
It also makes a ticking noise by the radio sometimes when i try to start it after it dies. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you all ahead of time for the suggestions and words of knowledge.

I still havent figured out what to do with the problem I'am currently having. Can anyone please help me with anything I can do? Or atleast point me in the right direction to a site, forum, or any other place I could find the answer I'am looking for. Im sure this is a thread that is seen a lot for I have searched here already and found a lot like it, but none were resolved, so I really need help with this. Any and all words of wisdom and help is deeply appreciated like mentioned before. Thank you.

The old alt may have killed the battery.

The old battery may have fried the new alt.

Pull the battery and go to your local parts store and have it charged and tested.

If the battery test is ok, install the battery and go to AutoZone, they can test the alt with it still in the car.

Have it tested the way they say. If ok have them do the test again, but load the system, turn head lights on, blower moter on High..use as much power as you can.

Just beacuse it is new, dosnt mean it is good.

Sounds like the new alternator is bad if the srs light is coming on. If the battery were bad than the car would run fine after it is started, but just not start.

Thanks for all the helpfull info. I went and returned the alternator and got a new one. While installing I noticed the power wire that connects to the alternator was cut and exposed. I guess it was causing the car to arc out and it wasn't charging the system. I put two thick pieces of shrink wrap around it and finished the installation and the problem is now fixed. I hope this helps others out with similar problems. I have no clue how it got exposed but sure enough that was the problem. All though it works good now and starts right up I've noticed if the car is on at night with the lights on and I go to roll both windows down the idle drops a tad bit. Any suggestions on what that could be?

Thanks again for all the help again.
