Looking at buying ECMLink V3 next weekend but a few questions come to mind. I looked at my ECU today and i do not have a Eprom. Is that going to be an issue? Also am i going to need SAFC? If i have a adjustable FPR with a fuel psi gauge can i go without a SAFC? I just want to see whats going on in my engine while its driving since its doing some odd things no one can figure out. Any other things i might need please chime in. I do not want to spend the 550$ to be short and not able to use it.

Holy crap never mind. Found the info i was looking for. I would have to spend 550 on the ECMLink then another 180 on the socket conversion and such. I think ill just get a OBD II reader.

An safc is the cheapest way to "tune" your engine..You could look for an eprom ecu, then get it socketed and get ecmlink..

OR just get the non eprom converted..Either way, its a waaaaay better tuning solution than an safc..

An obd2 reader just reades codes if I'm not mistaken..IT doesn't tune anything..Ecmlink reads codes too..

So your willing to spend 2-300$ on a scan tool, that reads codes..But not willing to spend 2-300$ more on link?

If you plan on modding more down the road..Wouldn't it be more cost effective to just go ahead and get link..

Ok so another question. I know how most of you shit on a SAFC but i have no plans on MAJOR mods for a long time. Where might be the best place to get a SAFC for a 96 GSX. Also i have looked into a V3Lite with conversion and chip and its about 570. So not as bad but still want to pursue all my options.

You can get a cheap little netbook for like $200 or cheaper if you shop right craigslist or even use a old laptop they work fine. You will not regret getting getting dsmlink thats your brains for everything.Look into it a little more try save money you wont be disapointed.

I have been thinking long and hard about this. Would it be worth it to get Lite for now? I mean like i said i have NO major mods and dont have plans for any for a while. This car has 189,000 Miles and i want it fresh before i start throwing mods at it

Getting V3 lite would be worth it. it's all that 99% of people on here need. The ECM website has a comparison between V3 and V3 lite. I forget all the exact numbers but it helped me make my decision. It would be was smarter to buy link even if you don't have major mods planed. If your intrested in logging only I belive you can use evoscan of you get the right coord.
