I believe I am the first to convert EVO 10 for use on my EVO 1. The results are amazing. Here is quick over view.

I spent an enormous amount of time mounting a 3071 . Never really happy with the low end response I had been kicking myself that I wish I had made a custom manifold to mount a factory evo8/9 turbo. Then when the evo X came out with standard rotation twin scroll turbo I got excited. I new one would eventually end up on my car. You can mount evo8/9 turbo without too much trouble but the PS and alt has to go since the turbo inlet would sit right there in their place. That conversion was done once and car the made 355hp on pump gas and when low 11,s at 120 to back it up. Of course for me PS and A/C are a must so a seriously custom exhaust manifold and 02 would have been needed to make evo8/9 turbo work. The evo X turbo on the other hand is configured correctly for a much smoother conversion for DSM use. its still a big project but a fun one. original turbo is a 15g. upgraded turbo is a 20g/TD06L2 (e-bay-KAMAK) I will let pics do he talking. all in all spent a full work week getting it done but the spool and power is amazing. I am very pleased. I have the ultimate street turbo on this car. 4th gear stab at 2500 starts pulling hard at 3200. full 2.0 bar at 3700rpm. The spool figures dont tell the whole story the torque from 2500-3500 is making the 2.0 feel almost like a 2.3. Its that good.

Wow, a lot of hard work and custom fabrication. Always cool when someone has enough ambition to make stuff fit. And I applaud your effort to retain PS and A/C. Most people say "Screw it, it's easier." And the kind of spool you are talking about is crazy good response. I definitely don't have that kind of response :(.

Nice setup! Sweet evo1! How did you get that car over here? What did you use to make the heat shield?

Looking at this picture what did you do for a smooth transition from the head/flange to the actual exhaust manifold itself? Seems like the there is an awful big step there.

I was able to drive this thing once the setup was complete. The tune still needs to be looked at, but holy hell. The response from a low RPM is just immense. The spool up is just incredible. This is going to be one sick evo1.

As far as getting the car over, I will let the owner speak up about that. He actually had 2 of them at one point, but traded the other one for a 2004 350z.

The car is genuine EVO 1 . almost completely converted to EVO3 spec and then some. I have the correct body parts. Just waiting to repaint the car before they go on. I was lucky enough to find the car on e-bay already in the states. I got it pretty cheap as the EVO 8 wasnt here in the states yet. These cars are beyond sweet. Sooo much more fun than EVO 8/9 platform. starts out 350lb lighter. handling is not bone charring like EVO 8/9. smoother lighter nimble feeling

The runners do not line up well between the 4g63 and 4b11. The 4b11 runners are very round. And not on center to 4g63 either. I didnt take picks of all steps. The runners had to be heated cherry red and hammered and tweaked before welding.

The shielding is from evo 10. Just cut and tweeked as well. came out nice. looks very factory.

Nice looking "custom" setup you got going there. My question is what intake mani is that? Looks to me a stocker of some sort, but not one I recognize. Also looks to have a descent sized plenum from the pic.

Nice job, how did you weld the cast manifold? I was always under the impression they were never as strong welded but I guess it depends on the technique.

great evo. Im also in the process of adding alot of evo3 stuff, I will definently look into this for my ride,
1991 galant vr4, (evo0), how long til someone starts making manifolds with the evo10 flange?

evo looks great, and so does the work. feel free to ship me that now unused FP manifold, LOL

just a little update. driving every day since install. the welds are holding just fine. the Kamak 20g is tight as a whistle. spikes to 27psi and holds 21psi. the setup is just nuts. well worth the effort if you have a fabricator to take the punishment. still want to make two changes. the stock evo 8 wastegate (1 bar) is spiking to much so I ordered 1.5bar to take its place. And when it was cold the turbo had quite a bit of surge. the surge was very noticeable but not the type to ruin turbo or make engine buck. made maybe 50 pulls with the surge. boost gauge shake about 2psi. so I plan to build custom ported shroud.

will be tuned on e-85 in two to three weeks. will start new thread with details on whole setup and results.

    Hi there,
A little bit off topic I know but is that a 'cyclone' type variable length intake manifold that you're running?

The only reason I'm asking is I've got one ready to go on my Evo 3 and I was wondering if you have any form of control on when it opens the 2nd set of runners or is it just fed direct from boost pressure to the actuator as it appears in the photo.

    Many thanks for any help

    Andy
