Hi all I have a quick question about starting a rally project. I've seen a lot of 1g rally cars, but I was wondering if a 2g would be just as good. Does anyone know if 1gs are just a whole lot lighter?

Thanks guys

2g cars have a better suspension setup. 1g cars are lighter.

No one used them because the 2g front damper fork splits around the drive shafts making it way too weak for the punishment of performance rally. The very few who have tryed find this out on stage 1 or 2 when it ALWAYS bends/breaks. I am into rallying and believe me I know. Eclipses have been obsoleted by Subie long ago anyway since they have more hp for same size engine. But if you insist on Eclipse go with a 1g.

A GVR4 would be an awesome rally car, but a 1g is going to be much cheaper and lighter. I would LOVE a 1g rally project, just nowhere to compete here.

1st gen seems to be the favoured DSM for rally. The are lighter, cheaper, take more abuse.

2nd gen for Tarmac / Autocross stuff. They handle better due to superior suspension design. The suspension is just not ment to be offroading.

Another option for a beginner would be a subbie impreza 2.5rs. Cheap and superior offroad abilities with more torque and you can run it bone stock and do well.
