I just recently got seriously interested in racing rally. I have been a huge rally fan for a few years now, but just recently i realized that i might actually be able to race myself. So i was wondering if any of you guys have ever entered in a rally cross event? My buddy is graduating from Wyotech next year, with specialties in race engines, and chasis fabrication(roll cages etc) so anyway, me and him were thinking about gettting into rallying for next summer or so. We want to get a 1ga awd dsm, with a 4bolt rear, and rebuild a 6bolt with 1g rods and 2g pistons. Then just do the basic engine and suspension mods and run a dumped downpipe. I am really really excited about this too, i am thinking about buying a 6bolt over the summer and rebuilding it. Sorry for the worthless long post, but i am pretty excited to actually get the car going. So do any of you guys have experience with rally cross, or any offroad DSM racing? Tell me about it, if you would please. i am very interested. :D

I know theres a guy at a local shoppe who rally's his 1g awd. Only problem is, its BRUTAL on the car. He came back with dents and scrapes and missing pieces from slamming into trees and flying over hills/bumps. Ive heard theres a course or something in WI. Only what ive heard though..

that said, if i had the funding or sponsorship, id definitely rally my car. i love rallycross. Rhys Millen is my hero :thumb:

well, i dont plan on the car ever being pretty. i dont care at all what the body or interir looks like. just as long as it is mechanically sound. and the chasis is perfect. i dont care at all about cosmetics. this car wont be my daily driver at all. this will literally be only my rally rae car. :thumb: so has anyone actually done this?

Racing Rally has been a dream of mine for years. I just can't keep my car running long enough  , nor do I have the money for roll cages, racing seat, harnesses, rally computer, suits, helmets. Those are just the required things.(at least for everything above rally cross, and TSDs) Then we get into the mods OMG :barf: $$$$$$$$$$$$$.
I have barely had the time and money to do a 3" turbo back, and intake.
However I have hauled ass on my share of dirt roads :D
I had a friend who Rallied a 1gst and he loved it right up till he got his evo 7 OMG
After that I think the eclipse wasn't quite as much fun.
Hopefully I Will be a little closer to getting into the scene by next season.
Find the SCCA in your region, they will be the ones to talk to. Auto cross are fun because you can practice your technique, but I would also recomend TSDs (time speed distance) rallies.here you have a cast (a predetermind speed) Usually the speed limit on rural dirt roads. After many different sections, and miles whoever comes closest to the cast speed wins. They aren't as exciting as a real rally, but it will help build comunication between driver and navigator, and it will give the navigator an understanding of the calculations he will need to make, and the taskes he will be responsible for, before he gets strapped in the passengers seat and is asked to do somewhat complicated mathmatic calculations, reading a rally computer, and a course book, all while doing 130 mph down dirt roads, 70 mph flying completly side ways, at the mercy of the mad man at the wheel, hoping when you tell him theres a sharp left comming up in 2/10 of a mile you didn't have a dislexia spasam. I guess I am kinda rambleing now but it's jus caus I love dirt so much.
Good luck, Have fun, And watch out for stumps :thumb:
