I did a quick search, didn't find what I needed. Anyway, is it possible to take a non turbo block and crank put on the turbo head and install turbo pistons, and all the other crap that goes with it. I've got a max of $2000 to rebuild the 91 awd talon I just picked up. The car has 136000 on it. The intake cam decided it would be a good idea to weld itself to the head! So head is screwed. My mechanic friend said he would swap the motor for 800-900 so that's 1100-1200 left. A n/t long block is 650 shipped, so I thought I could just re-ring the turbo pistons get new rod bearings and find some used or new cams. What do you all think? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm wondering if this is another possible alternative other than a jdm motor.

check the classifieds here and other sites like dsmtrader for potential motors. They're usually some listed all the time. The problem seems to be how much your mechanic is charging for a motor swap--be cheaper to do yourself including the tool rentals.

I would love to do it myself, so far that's how it's been, but it's 10deg outside and I don't have the room in my garage. That is why I'm trying to use the n/t block it's hella cheaper and I'm pretty sure they were not abused as bad as a turbo motor. I think the block would make a great core. So for the price of cams, bearings, new stock pistons I'd have a new motor for almost the same price as a used jdm one. Even cheaper w/ used stuff! So will the block be sufficent enough? The only thing I could find on the subject is that there are no oil squirters on the n/t block, and the rods and crank are thr same, but no definitive answer.

The block will work, but I wouldn't build it expecting to make huge power out of it without the oil squirters. I don't know if anyone has tried, or how it worked. Sorry man :talon:

The only difference between the 1G turbo and NT block are the oil squirters. Some of the 2g folks are removing the squirters on the crank journels to save the thrust bearing and aviod crank walk. If you are really building for power go with forged pistons that can withstand the extra heat and use the NT block.

Im doing the same exact thing that you are doing and have looked up many posts on the subject. Your fine using the crank and pistons and the n/t block is sufficient enough. I plan on boring my block out and using 2g pistons. Only thing is, and this goes for anyone, I cant find a kock sensor hole?!?!? Maybe I just didnt look hard enough. You dont need oil squirters in your car. I know many people that even had them plugged off in their turbo motors. If you have any questions on this subject furthermore, just PM me.

Anyone alive out there? So far 20 people have looked and no one knows?????

Bumping threads is not allowed don't do it again or I will lock this.

I also changed the thread title so it actually was on-topic.

For the amount of money you're gonna spend, just do a 6 bolt swap with this motor.

Yes you can use the COMPLETE n/t bottom end and not worry about using the turbo pistons. I put a stock n/t shortblock in my GSX about 3 years ago, been boosting 20psi daily for the past 3 years and it still runs awesome. Just use your turbo head, oil pan, all the other acc. and you'll be fine and save yourself some money. Might as well re-ring it adn put some new bearings in it while you got it out though.

FYI - there is a hole for the knock sensor on the back of the block near the #3 cylinder.
