I am in the middle of rebuilding my engine and was cleaning up the parts when I noticed a very small piece of my oil pump timing gear face chipped off. I don't have a way to take a picture of it at the moment but I can explain it as best as I can.

The missing piece is the on the FACE of the timing gear where the timing arrow is. It is NOT on the teeth of the gear. It is broken right where a valley is for a timing belt tooth will fit but does not expose any teeth when viewing the gear from the front. I do not believe the belt ever comes in contact with this area so I want to see if it would still be usable. I will try to upload a pic as soon as I can.

If the gear is not usable, does anyone have one laying around that I can get?

Ok, finally able to upload a pic. Hopefully this is good enough to make a decision if I can use it or if I need to find one. I am also worried that it may cause a vibration in the oil pump and cause abnormal wear.

All in all, I probably need to find another one, but I don't have the money to buy a new one so I have to work with what I have or find a cheap one.

I personally wouldn't use it. But I've seen/done many t-belt jobs or engine teardowns and seen those sprockets like that and haven't seen weird wear on the belt or anything. I'm just OCD in my car.

It looks like it doesn't even touch the belt, I say take a nice metal file and file it down to where it's completley smooth to the touch, without filing any of the teeth of course. dont forget the threadlocker upon re-installation, it's an absolute must for the oil sprocket, if not a spot of weld :thumb:

I would deffinetly not use a damaged part is a $30 dollar part worth your timing belt shredding? Just buy a new one so your not wondering if later down the road its going to do damage.
