1G Laser turbo question

If you are looking for the factory turbo then it would be a 14b if your car has a manual transmission and a 13b if it has a automatic. However if you are in need of a turbo anyways now would be a good time to upgrage to a 16g :thumb:
 
Thanks . I have a guy that has a 4G63 Engine in his garage . Its in perfect shape . Has a new Exhaust manifold and a upgraded 20pis turbo on it . Willing to give me the turbo and manifold for $225 . What do you think? Cause I can get a brand new 16g turbo w/o the wastegate off ebay for around $200 .
 
Brand new turbo ebay, you mean ebay turbo, just find the real thing i found my first 14b for around 100 bucks years ago. It was in real good shape.
 
This car has been a nightmare . Bought it a year ago . Since then I've replaced :

Entire clutch Kit
Font strut Bushings
Slave Cylinder
Master Cylinder
Battery (2)
Engine Comp. Fuse box

And now the Turbo and Exhaust Manifold .

But let me tell you , It's well worth it ... DSM 4 Life .
 
What iugrad92turbo is saying is that an ebay 16g is not a genuine MHI 16g and therefore you are probably better off just going with the factory 14b. There have been lots of problems with the ebay copies. Sick with the factory turbo or if you are going to upgrade, stay away from ebay.
 
Stock turbo for that car is a TDo5 14b if it is a manual. If it's an automatic it is a TDo4 13g. A 16g will still be a TDo5. Stay away from eBay turbos unless it's a genuine Mitsubishi turbo. eBay turbos are garbage. Spend the $100 more and buy a legit 16g. If not that route just stick with a good old 14b. Whatever your budget stay with a real mitsu turbo. As far as this guy wanting to sell you the mani and turbo I'd do some investigating on what brand those parts are. Then report back for some more opinions man!
 
do you self the favor and buy a real mhi and not some cheap e-### turbo. you will deff. thank yourself in the long run. But i heard some guys are getting 10000 miles on ebay turbos now and others get 2000
 
NET ERROR, You've heard our advice, now the decision is up to you. Let us know what you decide. Yes these cars can be nightmares but once you take care of the maintenance (that probably hasn't been done in the last 20 years) it will run and perform like a champ. Best of luck with your car.
 
i would not get that Turbo... its not Genuine mitsu, its a total ebay turbo... get the real thing used or get a Mitsubishi 16g Turbo.... extremepsi.com sells them.
 
That is def. a chinese made turbo like these guys said I would buy the real thing, but then again I heard here recently someone tell me theyve had one of those on their car for almost 2 years that it just has to be broken in properly and only ran on like 8-10psi for the first few months. I found my 16G for 150$ If you have any junkyards in your area that might have cars people have totaled out, thats how i found mine with 0 shaft play. :thumb:
 
Might be my only option , I can't afford $800 for a turbo. All the junk Yards around here don't have any turbos .

If I go with the 16g bolt on , what else will I need ? Will I be able to use my old exhaust manifold until I can afford a new one ?
 
ah, Just if you get one like i said run really low boost, Ive been told they will last a long time if they are broken in and the boost is never turned up around 20, Its a trade off you'll have to make for the budget, Ive been there and it sucks, just keep looking around for a few days or weeks and maybe you'll get lucky Craigslist and the classifieds on here help a lot sometimes too, either way you go good luck with it.
 
just get a used 14b turbo off another 1g dsm, it should not cost you more than 100$ even if you cant find one locally...just get one shipped to you and make sure that the turbo dosent have shaft play...and before you install it, check the exhaust side of the turbo...if its all oily thats cause its blown. but seriously..you should be able to find one localy.
 
I have an ebay Evo III 16g that supposedly has low miles on it.
Has hardly any shaft play. I bought it for the good hotside on it. I put my old hotside on it but I'm assuming you still have your hotside you could put on it.
I'd sell it for only like $50, it's just taking up space here.
 
Thats a stock turbo from a 2g car, just keep searching for a used 14b or 16g if your on a tight budget. I wouldn't mess around with that t25 you posted a link to

I can set you up with a freshly-rebuilt 14B for cheap, I just don't have any good turbine housings. You'll have to drop it into your existing turbine housing and reinstall the wastegate actuator.
 
Im very new to this , is that hard to do? Also how about an exhoust manifold ? Got any of thoes laying around? I'm going to need the turbo ASAP , I'm down a car with no way to get around. Thanks so much to all of DSMTuners for all your help . Don't know what I would do without your help
 
Thats why were here, we all help eachother the best way we can, some of make mistakes but get support from those who have been there. Were only human good luck.

Unfortunately not- sold the only stock 2G manifold I had to a friendly local DSMer a month or so ago.

Look in the classifieds- you'll want either a 2G manifold or an Evo III manifold. The runners are the same between the two- the Evo III manifold has a larger collector (more flow) and has more nickel in the casting making them less prone to cracking.
