1G [1g] Head Oil feed problems!

I have a 6bolt and it seems the previous owner relocated the oil feed line to the filter housing but in the process stripped the original housing or broke the bolt anyways I can’t tell because there is a object jb welded over it. I have an extra head that had been through a timing belt snap but I’m just wondering if I will be safe to continue to use the head and modify/tune the engine if I seal it up better or if I should have my extra head resurfaced. The obvious option is the second one but keep in mind I’m a broke highschool student.

Just wanting to know if I bring up the hp and boost will this become a problem like will the oil pressure blow it out, it works for now with a very small leak just need to know for future reference, thanks.

Is it sealed really well at the head? If so, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to use it as-is.

The big question is whether you trust that it's sealed and whether or not it's worth it to you to gamble on as a "broke high school student", especially if you're looking to put more money that's hard enough to come by into it to build and tune it. If that fails to maintain its seal at any point, there's a very good chance your engine gets ruined very quickly.

Even as a not so broke mid-career adult, that's not a gamble I would make. I think it looks poorly done and I wouldn't trust what anyone else has done to it at this point. But everyone's different.

I'm in agreement, I wouldn't trust it. You should be able to make a better repair inexpensively.

You do have a 3rd option which would be almost as good as replacing the head. You can drill out the stripped hole and put a heli coil in. The only thing that you have to watch is the metal shavings from drilling and tapping. You have to coat the tip of the drill bit and tap with grease and remove it frequently to clean the shavings off and put clean grease on it. Also when you bust the tang off the heli coil you have to grease that to avoid loosing the tang.

A couple shavings may get in the engine which is why I say it's not as good as replacing the head or at least removing the head to drill it for the heli coil but I would still go that route over just leaving it. To further remove shavings you can remove the allen plug from the oil galley on the opposite side of the head and blow compressed air thru. I'd say that would get almost 100% of the shavings out. But will require removing the upper half of the driver side motor mount

You may find that the banjo bolt just threads out and the previous owner just jb welded it shut instead of getting the correct plug from a non-turbo to cap it off.

Thank you so much for your help, the head is coming off for valve seals anyway so I will find a way to remove the unknown object and the jb weld without trashing the block and find the non turbo banjo or see if I can just retap and resort to the heli coil if needed. I really appreciate the help I will keep updating this thread on how it goes!

Update!! The head I was thinking of resurfacing is trash so that option is no longer available I’m going to try and get the jb weld off tomorrow but I’m worried that a piece of the head might actually be Broken off Underneath but there is only one way to find out…..
