1g front wheel drive to all wheel converison

so i was wondering if anyone new what was involved an how hard it is to convert a front wheel drive to all wheel drive? because i have a front wheel drive laser rs that has a fully built motor an everything an obviously i cant get the power to the ground on fwd. an i have an awd talon sitting around that i thought about using to convert the laser to awd so i can get my power down. how hard is this to do ??

just swap the stuff you have into the awd talon since you have it sitting around easy as pie.

Either start looking for an awd shell or look into dialing in your suspension/getting better tires. Maybe get a bigger turbo with more lag to help with wheelspin.

^ agreed when i was thinking of converting my 1g then i found out that it would be easier and cheaper to just get an awd shell and just swap the motor in

Just get a set of drag radials or slicks. It will be much cheaper in the long run.

You won't be able to do it, well you can but it will DEF be very hard. Its nothing like converting a 2g fwd to awd. Just to make it simple, don't attempt it.

Im sure the OP can handle doing it but in the end its not worth it. Get some drag radials and you should be fine.

ok i had thought about doing that before but my fwd is imaculant inside and out. i ve had fellow dsmers tell me that its the cleanest laser they ever saw! And the awd not so clean looking thats why i wanted to convert it.
And on a side note someones grammer has absolutely nothing to do with there mechanical skill (bastarddsm)!!!

Ok to actually HELP the original poster, it can be done but with the price of a decent AWD shell, unless you have the resources and the time it really is just in your best interest to invent in a new shell. You can swap interior parts if the new one is a little rough. Cleaning up the outside is different so you will probably want to find one that looks nice. Here is a thread to show you some of the issues with the 1g swap. And if anyone else has anything to post it better be relevant to the topic.

My opinion would be go with a AWD shell like most of the people are saying, itd be soo much easier to do, all that needs to be done is drop in the motor and hook stuff up.

Either that or you can have a jolly time, Wheel hop FTW

If you are mechanically inclined you should be able to do it. It will just take alot of work and attention to detail.

As some have pointed out, the chassis' are different. The AWD parts are not even close to being a bolt-on affair for the FWD chassis. You would save yourself quite a bit of time, money, and effort by using your AWD chassis as apposed to converting one.
