i have a 90 GSX and half the time i only get power to my front wheels? whats up with that? it makes a constant clunk clunk clunk going down the road, and it gets worse when i accelarate around corners, i can dump the clutch and it'll just spin the front tires, but if the roads are slick at all, all 4 wheels are going, im not sure if its a rearend or transfer case problem, any help would be apreciated, thanks

You need to find out if the drive shaft is spinning. Get the rear end off the ground and try to turn the shaft/wheels. If you can get the wheels to spin the same way and you feel play in the rear end (but the drive shaft doesn't move) then the rear end is shot.

More than likely tho you have trahed the viscus coupling or spider gears in the tranny. The spider gears are known to break often and when it hppend you end up with a fwd car that sounds really bad.

The fig: either replace the rear end, transfer case, or tranny.

Most likely it is the tranny. You may want to get it rebuilt with a better sytem (they make them welded or with more/better spider gears). Then cheapest rout tho is probably jut to buy a used one.

if it was the tranny wouldnt the noise be coming from the front of the car? because all the banging around is coming from the back half of the car
