i heard the spyders are built on the AWD frame so would there need to be any welding for the driveshaft brackets or are there spots there for them already?

All fwd cars will have to have the driveshaft braces drilled from the awd car and welded onto the fwd chassis. There is no way around it, all three cars turbo fwd, awd, and syder are all built on the same chasis. You will also need to drill holes in your sheetmetal to be able to remove the old fwd fuel tank bolts and weld in new ones in new locations for the awd fuel tank.

10k for a 2g awd? Right...I see 95 GSX's going for 5k or less on autotrader all the time. Do yourself a favor and sell your fwd. Even if you successfully do the swap, the chassis still won't be as stiff as the 2G awd, the whole thing will be just a big hack. You will save both time and money buying a GSX, and your car won't be a ghetto-fied 2G FWD chassis.

Get a clue kid, 2gs are not 500$ 1g's where the chasis are different between the fwd and awd. The only difference between the fwd and the awd are the rear subframe and the obvious drivetrain diffrences. If you take the time to do the conversion correctly you will have no different a car than if you were to buy an awd out right. And by take the time I mean weld in bolt holders for the front subframe bolts. Weld sheetmetal over the old fuel pump assebly hole and cut a new one for the awd fuel tank along with using the awd fuel pump sending unit cover.

I never said 2G's were $500.00. But you can buy a 2G awd shell for $500.00 and save alot of money. Yes the driveshaft tunnel on the 2G fwd's are there, but it still requires welding and drilling, which is something this kid is going to have to have done professionally (i.e. costing major $). It is going to be cheaper to just buy another 2G awd car (preferably one with a blown engine) to save time and money. It is not worth wasting time converting a FWD to AWD when there are so many AWD cars out there available for cheap. Let me point you in the right direction:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...ced=&end_year=1999&max_price=6000&cardist=300

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...ced=&end_year=1999&max_price=6000&cardist=279

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...ced=&end_year=1999&max_price=6000&cardist=246

ALL OF THESE ARE 2G AWD TURBO CARS LOCATED NEAR Chilhowie, Virginia (24319) AND ARE ALL PRICED BELOW $5000.00

Sell your FWD for $3000-$4000, and spend another $1000 on top of that, BAM, you have AWD and didn't have to ghetto fab a 2G fwd chassis. Yay!

ugly Automatics 95-96 cars go for under 5k... We are talking about a 97-99 5speed under 100k miles. Those go for higher, also prices depend where you live.

Exactly if I am going to buy an awd its going to be a 97+ preferably a 99. It will be a 5spd, and will deffinately not have 115k plus miles on it. Showing me three links for 95 autos with over 100k miles doesn't prove anything. Anyone with even a slight grasp on wrenching can do an awd swap in their own garage. You can rent a small mig welder for cheap and then all you need is a 1" hole saw and an 8$ spot weld drill bit from summit and you are on your way to having awd. It won't be quick and its very labor intensive but sometimes its much more worth it to someone to buy an awd donor car and do the conversion than shell out close to or more than 10k for a clean low milleage awd. Even a 97 is ten years old at this point in time buying an even older car than that because some people are lazy doesn't make sense to me.

so the chasie on the awd and the N/A is the same or different?
i got confused LOL

and i dont know much on the subject but im considering this
becouse if i can work on the B1 bomber then i figured i can do an awd conversion

A regular coupe(non convertable) n/t 2g has a different chasis than the turbo/syder cars and would require alot of money to not only drop in the 4g63 but all the related driveline. If you ahve a 2g fwd turbo or a 2g syder then you can do the swap.

What if you have a Spyder and want AWD??

I would love to do this swap, but I don't have the time to get involved in such a project. If only I would have purchased a house with a damn garage. Instead, the wife got a nice big, modern kitchen and I have to settle with the basement. :toobad:
