is it true that a stock gsx is faster and has more acceleration than a gst? i dont think so. you guys weigh more because of your all wheel drive and although you dont have a limiter because of your z-rated tires the gst is a more powerful car! right? some body set me straight please.

A GSX will be faster off the line, but on the interstate a GST will start to pull away. This is assuming stock for stock. The more you mod, the more the GST will fall victim to wheel hop/spin whereas the GSX keeps on truckin.

The GSTs have speed limiters but the GSXs don't.

The GST and the GSX have the same motor and the same power, its just how it gets to the ground.

if you plan on racing an AWD DSM will pull much better times than a FWD mod per mod. The more you mod the more the AWD will be better. Traction becomes a huge factor as you increase power and the AWD has plenty of it.

i'm assuming you ran a 14.9 before all the mods u have listed? ^^

They are more than right on the wheel spin concept. I can floor it in second at about 40-45 and spin my tires without a problem. This becomes an issue from a slow roll against something that doesn't do that (AWD). The FWD has its benefits, but if your gonna be a drag racer, AWD is gonna make more sense.

It makes ricers sh*t themselves though when i draw smoke doin 40mph. They tend to not rev there engines at me anymore after something like that.

P.S. don't do that a lot because i'm sure something is going to break, i've just been fortunate enough to have a well maintained car. You definitely calm down when your fellow dsms start breakin things from everyday wear and tear.

yes I ran the 14.9 off a stock set up running stock boost.. only mods were uicp, 1g bov, and an open air filter

I personally think the awd is what make dsms so special. Really it isn't that hard to slap a turbo on another vehicle. hell I did it w/ my old car(zx2). Its the awd which made me buy my tsi.

awd > fwd
period. dont question the logic.

dont try to bs around that awd = fwd.

4g63t = 4g63t, yes...
but, do not mistake it for, awd = fwd, just cus they both have 4g63ts

________
and i recommend, search and read on thie awd vs fwd threads.

yep i totally agree. A race isnt a race unless its from a stop. Where is the AWD going to shine? Right there. A race from a roll? heh thats just a speeding ticket. This isnt NASCAR LOL. If you want a DSM to drive get which ever. If you want a DSM to race get AWD. Period.

then which one will be better in this case if your already going 60mph on the free way in germany  and some high powered car pulls next to you which one built will be able to work better? FWD/AWD.

if you make any decent power on a FWD, you will spin, even at 40mph and even higher.

iam lazy and feeding off anothers thred is easyer... so to fix that iam clicking search right now. :thumb:

well, just remember that there is a bit more parasitic loss in AWD, but it is *NOT* exponential. i.e. just because at 20mph it is 'x' percentage, doesn't mean that it is still 'x' percent @ 60mph. This is due to the fact that it's a fairly static arrangement.

Also, the weight difference is quite minor. Hell, a MBC will more than eliminate that issue.

I for one have less than no problem doing horrible things to people on freeway rolls from 70+

Of course, this is seattle, and a lot of times it's wet, and traction can be an issue. But it's not like that's the only thing going for it. AWD is just a superior way to put down power. That doesn't mean that FWD DSM's aren't fun, it just means that they're more of a handful.

Also notice the original poster is driving a spyder, which puts it in the same weight class as an AWD.

Don't worry fairy, there is nothing like dropping the top on a nice sunny day.

Of course, I love my spyder, but shhh*. I am slowly accumulating all of the parts for an AWD conversion.

ALL stats from Epinions.com

Curb Weight
GSX- 3,270 lbs
GST- 2,970 lbs
GST-Spyder- 3,053 lbs

I wil say AWD her. For the fact that with a welded center diff or a vce, you are FWD/AWD in minutes. So I would think You can rol FWD all day for highway cruising and slap up the tcase and driveshaft for the track. Granted the gear ratios are different but I have had no problems when I went to fwd. with a 2 and a half inch exhaust and a 14b @ 17psi and a hks ssqv vented to atmosphere(i was young) I only got pulled maybe 3 cars by the end of 2nd on a fwd with a s16 @16psi and exhaust. Obviously all cars run different but it was fun nonetheless. But winter is coming so back to awd.

IM FWD

*eh hem*.....two reasons why i keep my fwd

1) the most recent one.... I beat an evo VIII from a 25mph roll....
(supporting mods for my stock t-25 turbo that is)

2)...a friend of mine has fwd too 1g.... he told me quote "it feels good to beat an AWD off the line".....I did this to a 1g auto awd w/14b..... IT FELT SOOO GOOD a feelin i can't explain...not as good as sex though :D

I AM NOT HATING ON AWD.....AWD is nice...i was going to get a 98 gsx until the guy bailed and decided to keep the car..i dont mind having a fwd since I don't like racing my car every weekend...but i usually like crusing...and highways are my funtimes no matter what anyone tells me....

AWD :thumb: FWD :thumb: ..........DSM BABY......doesnt matter to me....

if it aint a DSM.....LOL then fockk yourself :D

I have a hard time believing that one.... Sorry.

I looked exclusively for an all wheel drive when i was shopping for a dsm. Some people would say it was a waste because im only targeting the mid 13's at the track. I just love the awd traction. Sorry fairy, not trying to make you feel bad.. but your driving a heavier car to start off with, The least capable of the 2g dsms stock is the convertible. It has its tradeoffs though, convertibles ARE sweet when its nice outside!

I dont think a properly launched fwd can take a properly launched awd off the line.. sorry kiddsm, if anything you should be happy that you dont suck as bad as the driver of the awd.

Good luck on that spyder awd conversion, i heard it was tough!

Gary420a, you are a goober :p . Now go buy an awd. :thumb:

AWD is also geared lower. But power output is the same.

And yes, we've had this squabble too many times before.

Turns out people like what they like, regardless the "reasons".
