Resolved 1G Disconnecting Throttle cable, can I cut it?

I’m in the process of disconnecting all the cruise control and throttle cable stuff, but I can’t seem to find out how to disconnect the cable from the gas pedal. Can I just cut it off? If so, is it easy to put a new one in?

Don’t cut it if you are going to use the cable again. It’s easy to get off. I will try to find the post that helped me get mine off.

Why are you needing to remove the cable? If you're doing so because you're removing engine it's totally unnecessary.

There is nothing that is a pain in the ass about disconnecting the cable from the pedal. Take a pair of pliers pull the plastic clip out from the pedal and slide the cable thru the slot, it takes a whole 5 seconds to do. Than you remove the 2 10mm head bolts from the firewall holding it in.

Engine is already out, I’m removing everything off of the firewall to freshen up and repaint my engine bay while I rebuild my motor

Even you cut, the process to remove/install the cable would be the same. So no point to cut. It's a very easy process to remove the pedal side cable.
Remove the cable bushing that is hooked on the pedal (#3/4 in the pic below) and remove the two bolts that hold the cable on firewall (in the green circle). That's all.

I am seeming to have a very hard time reaching pliers all the way up there and properly taking the clip off. Is there a specific type of plier I should be using to make this easier?

Flathead screwdriver to pop the cable out of the bushing?

Try to pinch and press the bushing tabs behind the pedal as the green arrows direction (That's where it's hooked). And push to slide out the bushing as the red arrow direction. Once the bushing is out, just unhook the cable as the blue arrow direction.

This diagram was very helpful! I was able to get it out no problem after that and using a flat head like chrisman suggested as well. Thank you for helping me!
