will a 2g oil pump go on a 1g 6bolt block? also, can i use the oil cooling unit of a 2g on a 1g? Or is the 1g set up better? Main reason im wondering is because i have a brand new 2g oil pump that im thinking of installing on my 6 bolt short block.

No, the 7 bolt pump will not bolt to a 6 bolt block, with a lot of modification it can be made to work, but you are better off selling the 7 bolt pump and buying a 6 bolt pump. As for the oil cooler, the cooler itself is the same from 91+ on all turbo 4g63's. The filter housing itself it not the same however.

okay thank you. I have a 1990 6 bolt short block. So i need to keep my oil filter housing from the 1990 6 bolt?

so the air cooled one is better?

Yes, especially if you but a bigger aftermarket oil cooler for it. Even in stock form you will get better cooling than with the water cooled unit. The lowest possible temp with the water cooled cooler will be the temp of your coolant as where the air/oil cooler will transfer the heat to a lower temp.

Bryan just to verify, you mean the 7 bolt front case won't work on a 6 bolt right? The oil pump gear housing and gears are interchangeable on either front cases. With the 7 bolt housing, it has one countersunk hole.

Yes, the front case for a 6 bolt won't bolt to a 7 bolt.
