I've never physically held the two in front of me, so I'm not really sure of any differences (if any). My search came up empty.

I really need to know if each can interchange with the other motor. Does anyone know the specific differences bewteen the 1G and the 2G front cover/oil pump?

1G 6bolt part number is MD129347 and 2G 7bolt part number is MD327450.

As long as it your 1G engine is a 7bolt, it should be the same part. If your 1G engine is a 6 bolt it will be different from the 2G front cover/oil pump.

Are you referring to 1g 6 bolts or 7 bolts? If you look on RRE's site it shows their old method of doing a 6 bolt swap which requires modding a 7 bolt oil pump to make it fit. That should give you a general idea of whats different.

There are differences in the oil galleys on the back side. Also, the 2g one is drilled for the crank angle sensor, and has different timing marks. You can see this by looking at the modifications necessary to bolt a 2g 7-bolt cover to a 6-bolt block in one of the less popular methods of doing a 6-bolt swap.

Things like balance shafts, pulleys, crank/balance shaft sprockets are all interchangeable. I also believe the oil pump gears are interchangeable, but I can't verify that for sure.

Thanks for the link, Matt. Definitely looks like a PITA.

I could've sworn, the last time I looked up oil pumps, that they had a 1G and a 2G.... I figured the 1G 6-bolt and 7-bolt pumps were the same. I'll check when I get back into my office to see which one I have. (i was pretty sure it was listed as a 90-94 pump....)

So you guys are saying that a 1G 6-bolt and a 1G 7-bolt pump have slight differences, correct? And the the 2G pumps are the same as the 1G 7-bolt pumps, right?

That is correct. Forget about 1G vs 2G just take into consideration what the engine is 6 bolt or 7 bolt and use the appropriate front cover and gears.
What is it you are trying to do anyway?

OK, the oil pump I have here is listed to fit 90-94 2.0L 4G63 non-turbo models. Does anyone have any experience with fitting this on a 2G 7-bolt engine?

Wha are the differences between the 1G N/T oil pumps and the 2G turbo oil pumps?

That is a 6 bolt cover and only goes on a 6bolt engine both Turbo and N/A.
Again what are you trying to do?

Ok. I think I figured it out. My Federal Mogul catalog lists the oil pump to fit 90-94 which is incorrect. That really through me for a loop. My Melling catalog, however, does list the 6-bolt and 7-bolt pump seperately and it show the part numbers to be dissimilar.

So, why exactly won't a 6-bolt cover fit a 7-bolt engine? Is it basically only the differences listed on this diagram?

I "think" he is planning on doing gen. maintenance on his car over the winter. I.E. Timing, water pump, oil pump, front cover, all timing componentes, BS belts, and tensioners, etc.

I believe he was just asking for help b/c he works at a parts store and can get all the parts, but rather than calling up a DSM company, he just asked here first.

BTW, Paul. If you would have called me first, I could have told you what Mitch (suprata) told you. :thumb:
