1G a good autocross car?

In case you start doing well and people start poking at your car, there is one more issue to think about. FP requires a 1/2"-long 52mm intake restrictor before the turbo inlet. The design of such a restrictor is critical. Do some searching and learn as much about flow dynamics as you can before building your restrictor. Some people have actually reported small advantages when a well-designed restrictor is in place.

Of course, the inlet to a t25 or t28 is already darned close to 52mm as it is. ;)

zephyr could you post some details or pics of the welding you did in the back? it sounds like a good idea and if i could get some details i might try doing it to mine once its running again.

How would a stock 1g FWD do? I will know the answer tommrrow anyways, I'm heading to my first ever auto X. :thumb:

Sorry I don't have pictures and I don't think it would come out well in pictures. I can tell you what I did though, 1. 3 other guys helped me chip all the seam sealer out, we used sledgehammers and chisels, it took us 1 1/2-2 days(but i took all the insulation out too). 2. I took a electric grinder with a wire wheel and grinded down the remaining seam sealer. 3. I then took a dremel and grinded down more seam sealer that I didn't originally get too. at this point I am at 3-4 days of work. 4. I grabbed a tig welder and attempted to weld it(the weld was too contaiminated from all the seam sealer behind the metal). 5. I then grabbed a mig welder and started to weld the seams. I did stitch welds across all of the seams I grinded to bare metal. I welded all the seams in the interior that had seam sealer on them. The front floor, the seam behind the seats, the rockers, the trunk, across the front and back of the trunk, the sides all the way from under the dash to the back, all of it. (there are many more seams in a car, more than I want to think about but I did the ones I thought would add the most stiffness) The only ones I didn't do are the ones under the hood and the ones next to the glass. All in all about 20-30 feet of weld It took me a week and a half-2 weeks to do all of it. I did it in class(i go to school for this kinda stuff) I was working 8 hour days. And I started with a stripped interior. And the ecu and modules were miles away(if you do this you MUST take them out) I still haven't found all the electrical stuff I fried. I'm pretty sure I blew some fuses but I may have other problems. It did stiffen it up alot though. I can hear the difference just closing the doors. I don't know its effect on handling yet. Because I can't get the car to start. It has an electrical issue. If you still want to do it, I'll tell you more, just send me a pm or something.
I am working on it all weekend so I'll tell you its affect later if you want. Althogh this is rather off topic.

I'm double-posting to seperate these things, sorry about the rambling.

I have ported the head, and the car came with a ported inlet compressor on a 14b, and 2.5 exhaust all the way back, and I will probably be porting the exhaust compressor and o2 housing(or making a new one) in a month or two. Is that stuff legal for FP
Edit- Scratch that, I'll just buy a rule book. :thumb:

Oh and is listening to a guy talk about air flow for a week or so, porting a head, exhaust manifold, and checking the head on a flowbench like 8 times (and realizing what i did wrong and fixing it) a basis for making a restrictor? :p Seriously though, thanks for the info, I may seriously persue fp if my car isnt going to be illegal by the end of the summer.

Ah, thanks for the links.

I have been following that thread, i want to do something like that with my car eventually, although i want it to be more of a "street" car, like with a dash and a cusco diff, and less weight. I don't have the mods to compete with a car like that yet. Soon.... That and apparently i lost alot of camber from pulling all the weight out, it sits real high and the back tires are near straight, now im going to have to make some way to adjust the camber on the front and back.

Nice work though.

My 1g will be ruining in SM as soon as get the supension sorted, and then I can get beat by those evil Civic Hatches :sosad: OH well its fun anyway. I love runing My Civic Si in STS and if my Talon was closer to stock I would run it in STX.
