why dont you use the whole 3g block and trans with the evo head. then you would have a 2.4 fwd with probly the least amount of fab

Most of the fab work(if i remember correctly) is around the trans. The upper tranny mount and the crossmember are what need the fab work. I believe the pass. Side mount lines up. Again not too sure about this havent got that far. This is just the instructions i got.

I have never seen or heard anybody use a 420a trans! show me the guy that did this. I will call him. On a side note. I have a bunch of 420a parts i don't need. Powder coated valve cover, turbo, exhaust manifold and so on.

Here is the link of the guy that says he used a 420a trans.
He says his friend has done 40+ swaps. But the fact that he says it requires little to no fab kinda throws me off...

just ordered my viton valve seals for my evo 8 head. All i need are gsc s2 cams and off to the machine shop the head goes

Update, picking up a short block. My count down has begun. I have 3 months exactly to finish. Hopefully i finish. I will be using an eclipse 3g transmission.

Good luck and look forward to seeing this. Taking my time, I built a 88 Camaro in 6 months so the 3 months shouldn't be that hard to achieve. I did a lot of painting of parts, body, etc and also dealt with breaking my toe kick boxing all in that time so.

So, let me get this straight: The axles will be the right length? I had no idea that besides the wiring and tranny mounts this could be so straight forward. I thought the big hang up would be getting custom half shafts that were the right length. Not to mention if the hub is compatible or not. That wouldnt be as bad though.

I think there will be some modding needed I'm not sure yet.


UPDATE:

Just ordered a complete running evo 8 short block. Passed compression test with flying colors. Will be getting a 7 billet 20g turbo made for this engine.

I'm undertaking the same project myself. I started my project at the end of last summer and have been slowly working away at it. I have a build for mine as well, but haven't updated it in awhile. So everyone knows I haven't abandoned the project!!

I'm using a 2.4 4g64 block from an outlander with forged internals. I've got a evo 8 head, with cosworth 272 cams, cosworth valve springs and retainers. Using stock 100mm crank with manley turbo tuff rods and pistons.

My build has been a slow go, but I'm graduating from my engineering class in a couple weeks so plan to get moving along further over the next summer.

I think the real hard part about this build is gonna be the wiring, and the welding/fab work of the motor and trans mounts, but I really love the concept.
the 2g n/t was seemingly the butt of dsm jokes, but now it has a chance to shine like the rest of the gsx line I'm subscribing man

if you decide to do the wiring yourself please document it all, maybe even do a write up.

Im hoping i could finish this by July 12 which is MOD in Cypress, Ca. I got lucky and was able to sell some more parts so i put the money towards the new turbo.

-evo 8 ecu

-shifter assembly and pedals
-just small stuff i guess like exhaust manifold and stuff like that.

What are you planning on doing with the 3G tranny? They have pretty weak internals and might not last to long under boost. Because of this, I am using an evo tranny and converting to awd as well. More time consuming, but I find it more beneficial in the long run.

Have you determined if you will be able to use your oem axels with the new transmission or if the spline pattern is different. I'm just curious since I too am makin this swap.

Im not there yet. From what i hear the 3g transmissions are not weak.

Not to mention the timing gears wont clear the hood.

This wouldn't be a issue at all bro! Not even our 2g cars need the bump in the hood for the cams to clear ! The 1g's did however and they had already made the hoods at the factory and didn't find out they wouldn't clear till assembly . Instead of having to waste all the hoods already made they found the easiest solution, make a dent in the hood just enough for clearance. And that's exactly what they did ! Once the body change came for 95 they felt the hood bump fit the car and kinda was a signature for the eclipse/talon/laser and lots of people liked it. So they just kept it going for all 95-99's, but really doesn't need to be there at all and could be flat and make no difference. The o.p. could always move the hump over to the other side haha or have 2 ! To the o.p. get at it bro do your research get the parts and get ## done!
