Alright so you might have this car around online. Well its mine ha. My name is Cristian and ive owned this talon since my freshmen year in high school. I didn't really know much about dsms or that i even had one. Once i found out there was a turbo version of it i wanted to boost thinking i could make the same power on a 420a. Yea i know what noob i was. Anyways, my car ran fine for about 4 years boosted at 8psi until blew a rod 2 months ago. I was just going to rebuild and keep pushing the 420a but then everybody was like just do the evo 8 swap. I thought about it and then i finally decided to do it. I already have some parts that i bought and i will post pictures when i can.

What is your reasoning for going with an evo 4g63? Im a little baffled as to why people would suggest it. A 6 or 7 bolt 4g63 from a dsm would be the logical choice.. Very clean 2g btw!

Because a 6/7 bolt face the wrong way for the 420a based talon/eclipse. The Evo 8 sits the same way as our engine.

Yes, but does that really matter if you cant use your stock tranny? I mean either way, they don't share the same engine mounts. Not to mention the timing gears wont clear the hood, and if you went awd you would basically have to fab your own driveline. Imo it would be much easier and cheaper to swap in a 2g gst/gsx driveline and a dsm 6/7 bolt. But hey, not my build. Carry on:thumb:

I don't want to start and argument or anything but in order for a 420a based car to have a DSM 4g63 engine/trans, they would have to cut the front clips off and do the swap that way. The DSM 4g63 faces the driver side with the trans on the passenger side. The 420a and the Evo8 have the engine facing the passenger side and the trans on the drivers side. The OP does have his work cut out for him but not near as much as cutting 2 front clips off of cars and swapping.

With that said, my timing gears fit just fine under my hood with them facing the passenger side.

The whole point of this build was to share something with you guys. If you guys are going to be bashing go right ahead i'll just delete the build and continue my build and let whoever follow me on FB see it. So far this is what i have.

Complete Evo 8 head
-hks cam gears
-gsc valve springs and retainers
- gsc s2 cam gears (in progress)

good luck with the build check out the lancer for the front wheel tranny set up know they had the 4g63 in them too an had only front wheel drive in them so you may have a tranny in one of those to use to bolt the engine to.you may have to fab up the tranny an engine mounts to work but if I can shoe horn a v12 jag engine into a 1950 henry J you should be able pull it off and place a evo 8 into yours on a DSM as well just need money an the knowledge to get it done should be a challenging project to say the least.

I'm all down for it. I wanted to do the same thing years ago. Even had a friend that had connections with scrap yards looking for a totaled Evo.

Subscribed.

I actually have a 95 ESi myself. Great daily driver. Wish I had the time and resources to do what you are doing to yours.

Good luck!

Definitely subscribed! Can't wait to see the outcome of this!

Don't mind the 4g63 band wagon. Build the car the way you want, not how others want.

Yes, please shut up and let the guy do his thing. You're annoying

I'll keep you guys updated. By the way I'm looking for a shifter assembly since my car was auto and whats the point of keeping it auto when i have an evo 8 engine. So if anybody has one for cheap let me know.

Do you already have the pedals? You could look in the classifieds for a part out. If that is a no go, you could contact Miller Imports. Real nice people to deal with.

I apologize, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was bashing. Your car is very clean, good luck with the swap.

You can use the 420a trans you just have to swap bellhousing and I believe you can use 3rd Gen axles. Unless you're going megasquirt you need to swap the harness and evo 8 ecu. If you didn't know all that. There's been a lot of talk on fb about this swap. Hopefully you document everything top to bottom for others to see. Good luck

I am pumped to see how this turns out too. I know there is another 420a guy on here swapping a 2.4l evo engine in.

My 2 cents in all this.... Do the swap to AWD while ## at it. No use in putting all that work in to still be FWD. I say this all the time someday I would really like to do the evo 2.4 swap and make mine AWD. In a perfect world where money never runs out I would get one of Paul's chromoly sub frames and do a compound turbo set up. I mean there are a ton more parts but that's what I would do.

I think the OP would be better off using the Evo's trans. 1: it'll bolt right up to the engine=less stress and fabrication. 2: It's strong enough to handle the power of the Evo's engine. It's simpler to rewire sensors than build new metal components, might be time consuming, but will also be cheaper in the end.

Yeah it will bolt up to the engine but not any of the mounting points. Swap bellhousing and wire in 3 sensors is easier and cheaper. Unless you know where to buy an evo 8 trans for $100 bucks.

Well he's not gonna be able to get the engine for that cheap either. The 420a trans, in my view, would be fine for getting it running, but if he plans to add any kind of power, or go AWD, which would be sweet, then the Evo trans would be better, long-term. I could only see the 420a trans as a short-term solution, unless there's companies out there that sell beefed up gear sets for them like us GST/GSX guys. I wouldn't really know.

check with miller import parts he may have everything you need to do this swap, he has both a evo plus a eclipse an he specializes in DSM plus he treats us DSMers right just ordered a 2gb talon wing from him for 125 shipping an all so he is reasonable for the parts he sells.

What tranny are you using? Im currently in the process of doing the same swap on my RS. A guy who did it, Jimmy Linder i believe told me that a 3rd gen eclipse 2.4l tranny would go with the engine...
