Well I have looked and searched but I can't find anyone that is selling the 1990 shifter bushings anymore. Does anyone know of a company or a replacement that would work on 1990 manual shifters. I have to have something, but can't seem to find anything. Thanks in advance. :hellyeah:

Base bushings are still available. I needed to be more specific, sorry. I am needing the shifter bushings that go on the shifters 2 pivot points. Checked with JNZ but they don't offer them any more. Mitsu dealer maybe???

Yea I would check with the dealer then hopefully they can get them for you. Good luck man.

Ok, I compiled a list of every part I could think of and included vendors for the parts for just about ANY DSM shifter, as I like a CONCLUSION to every thread, most importantly, my own!
Thank you to all of the members and Vendors/Freelancers that helped out, I sure appreciate you all!

One of the vendors or freelancers can fix you right up! Glad to help out when I can.

The shifter bushings for the shift levers, like the missing one in the pic above, can be replaced with skate board bearings (or go rob a couple from your kid's old fidget spinners). They do have to be pressed in, but a good set of channel locks or a C-clamp will do the job.

(sorry to resurrect an old thread)

I emailed white shed speed a while back about cable bushings, since they only have a listing for 91-94 dsm and 91 galant, and the 91 dsm bushing kit will work for 90 application

I've not personally seen it but there is a thread somewhere that talks about shift fork wear because of these bearings. The forks are not allowed to "float" if there are solid linkages/bearings etc holding them in a fixed place. I don't use them as I've never seen the need. I question why the oem would use what looks like an over-engineered piece instead of a simple bushing or bearing. maybe that's why?

I'm seriously interested in learning more. I just recently switched to bearings for no other reason than to tighten up my shift linkage (and I had these bearings laying around).
The OEM bushings do have a slight bit of play with the shift lever, but the shift rails shouldn't be moving at all during cruise. Detent springs/balls will hold the rail in place just like they hold it in gear. Even still, there's probably more free play in the rail linkage than the OEM shifter bushings. I could see, during shift, the OEM bushing might be a little more forgiving due to the rubber part. That's probably more in-line with preventing breaking a fork than floating one. :idontknow:

I don't normally question the engineers, but at the same time they try to reuse parts that have been used/work well on other platforms to save $ and effort of engineering a new part. Maybe they determined there might be a longevity issue with the bearings? If that's the case, they are super easy to replace.

The biggest issue I've seen with skateboard bearings (or other metal, solid bushings) is when they seize up--being it dirt or rust. They shouldn't cause an issue if they're cleaned and greased, but if they seize they well cause havoc on the cables, hub/sleeves and forks. This can also happen with the factory units (this is where the flexibility of the rubber helps) and solid bronze/brass/etc. when rust forms on the shafts they press on to and they (the bushings) get locked into place and no longer rotate. The bushings themselves don't have to rust, as when the shafts rust, it closes up the tolerance and seizes them. That's why we started making them out of Delrin back in the early 2000s,--the Delrin will sacrifice itself and not seize onto the shaft if rust forms.

As for questioning the engineers---always do that. As you stated, A) they are beholden to the bean counters a good portion of the time, B ) what works on paper doesn't always work well in real world conditions or long-term and C ) The whole "planned obsolescence/longevity" aspect that sometimes gets involved.
