car is a 1990 gsx, so anyways I was driving to the gas station as I pull up to the pump there's a bunch of clicks coming from the dash (ecu?) then the car dies so I just try to start it back up, it starts but has a hard time staying started. I just put gas in and then it starts up fine and I drive off, I go about a mile down the road then the clicking starts again and the car shuts off and won't come back on. as I hold the key in the start position it almost starts but as soon as I let go of the key it dies.
so anyway, upon further inspection the clicking sometimes comes from dash or sometimes from the fuel pressure solenoid.also with the key in the on position the factory boost gauge fluctuates from 14 to 7 or 0 or anywhere in between. I hear the fuel pump and everything

cliff notes- car won't start, clicking noises from dash and sometimes fuel pressure solenoid, factory boost gauge fluctuates with key in "on" position.

thanks for any help

To clear things up the FP solenoid is under the hood.

The Fuel pump relay is under the dash and should click once when you turn the car off.

I would also suggest taking out your ecu and checking the caps for leakage, and signs of damage to the board. It is fairly common.

yeah, I know I go under the hood and hear the clicking from the fuel pressure solenoid

it's not the ecu, mpi relay, or cas, the injectors are getting power but they won't open.

what is it?

Have you actually swapped out the ecu? The MPI Relay as well? Like auto said, visual inspection can not prove if it is functioning or not.

Also, there's no way you can be hearing the fuel pump with the key on the "on" position. On these cars, the fuel pump wont energize until the car is actually cranking over.
