Well I drove my car to school today, it sat for 6 hours, then drove it home (5 minutes). 15 minutes later i drove to the wawa to get money for some auto parts and when i went to start the car again it wouldn't turn over. All i could hear was what seemed to be a relay "clicking" by the ecu/radio. All the electronics worked, it just kept clicking, even after i took the key out of the ignition. This is really frustrating, my car is currently sitting at wawa. So am I right about this being a defective relay, and why would this happen all of a sudden?

Edit: One of my battery terminals is corroded/ not reallly secure. I was actually on my way to buy a new terminal. Usually the car just won't start because the cable gets loose and all electronics die. So i then just go out and tap the terminal down on to the battery and it fires up fine. I just read that that could cause the starter not to engage? It worked 10 minutes earlier....

Thanks, i need help asap!

if you have the funds i believe its 16 bucks from the auto parts store a trigger switch to take your key ignition out of the picture, there is a relay called the auto shut down relay that is a two part unit one controls the ignition to your coil and the other controls your fuel. thats located on the driver side under the hood by the brake master. also un bolt the starter take it in the parts store and get that tested as well i believe thats free to do!

could anyone explain were those relays are located on a 1g. pics maybe.
and also how do i get rid of my ignition and just run a button start or would i still have to have the key to turn lights and all electronics on or can it b wired to a switch..
please let me no my car will not go over 3 grand it just pops in and out kinda like fuel cut but more consistant, actually fully consistant and i cant figure out the problem

Sounds like the MPI relay. I wouldn't think that would stop it from turning over. There is a starter relay under the dash, near the steering colum.

yah il just run the wires but what do i do as far as disable the key from being able to start the car? and the relay could possibly b the problem. i know its electrical becaust my ampage regulator threw to manny volts and fried all by bulbs and what not and sence than iv had this problem

and also something is drawing power from the battery when the car is off..
alternator and battery=brand new

ok guys i fixed it! Thanks for your suggestions.

It turns out it was actually an old viper alarm that was put on by a previous owner (poorly might i add) that was clicking. I just unplugged the brain and voila, car started. I ahve no idea why or how it just started up like that, seeing that the alarm hasn't worked for quite some time.

Thanks again!

Look around under the dash area for a dip switch that you may have hit. It may be activating the starter kill. Or just leave it unplugged, LOL. Good to hear it's running at any rate. :thumb:
