1984 Celica GTS 4G63 swap

I got the car really cheap. Bad engine, Non running. The engine, ECU, etc... is from a car that I had a few years ago. It was a 90 GS Turbo. FWD. RWD is much more fun. Totally different feel.

The car is really clean. Its all there and unmodified.

This is a pic of it after I fired it up. Check the video below.

About 30 seconds of it running. No exhaust yet. But it all nice and quiet now.

Not a huge celica person so i have a question or two. What trans or was it the stock celica trans? How long did it take you to complete it?

I really like how you did the upper rad pipe but I think you could use a new intercooler setup. Never been a fan of IC with piping like that.

Very nice I just pulled my motor for a rwd conversion too, it's always nice to see that it worked out for someone else. That looks like a toyota r154 trans, and that's definitely a Billhousing from Mr. Hincher. Are you planning anything as far as wheels/suspension, or staying with the total sleeper?
In any case, primo job. RWD FTW

I agree that you could really route your intercooler piping more efficiently. And what's going on with the throttle setup?

Ps. For what its worth, you do not need a mount on the front of conventionally mounted engines. Two on each side. One for trans.

Wow.....has the exact same interior as my MK2 supra......selling your interior by chance? Also has the supra rims on it to, look SOOOO much better then the original celica rims! (had same year celica, but have the supra now)

I guess I left out most of the build details. The transmission is an R154 from an 86-92 Supra Turbo, the bellhousing is a custom unit from Bill Hincher. He has several options for transmissions. I used a hodge-podge of mounts and brackets for the trans. For the engine mounts I used the stock 22RE style rubber insulators, from there I fabbed the engine brackets to the stock holes for the D50 2.0L. I picked up the D50 brackets, but they were not quite right. I used some of the stock Toyota stuff so replacement stuff would be easy to find.
Other details...Supra MKIV fuel pump, -6 fuel lines, GM style fuel filter, ACT 2600 pressure plate, factory Supra MKII clutch disk, Supra MKII 7.5 LSD with 3.91 ring and pinion, Supra MKIII front half drive shaft, custom shortened rear half. The Throttle body moved is pretty apparent. That COOL throttle thingy is the factory 22RE stuff. I plan to use the cruise control. That made all the throttle control stuff easy. I used all Toyota linkage parts with Supra MKII, Cressida Celica stuff.
The unused engine mount is part of the A/C bracket. I plan to reinstall the A/C this summer. I don't like the look of it just hanging out there. But i think I can cut the top two bolt portion off. Not just yet. i want to make sure of what I need and don't need.
It took me 2 years to finish the car. I was beeing a SLACKER!!!
My plan for the car is just a fast street car that can be driven daily. Maybe a drag race or two.
I take it some of you guys don't like my intercooler piping. I waited a bit to reply so I could take some measurements of my old piping from my 1G dsm. The Celica piping is about 6-8" shorter with about the same amout of bends. I figure I have way bigger fish to fry. It's has been all about keeping costs down. I am not going to get a new intercooler for a small increase in flow...if at all. $$$

I really like this build, and think you did an outstanding job. The throttle thingy is awesome, the intercooler (while it may have had the inlet on the wrong side) is installed quite well. Can't blame you for using what parts you have laying around. The piping work all looks clean.

I used to have an 81 Supra. I wanted to put a 4 speed manual and a small block 400 in it (because I had them laying around), but I decided the body was too rotted out and junked it.
