17" wheels for road racing.

A few questions:

1. Will these fit on a 1G? (90 Eclipse GSX)

2. How much? Somebody asked about 20 emails ago, and there has been no answer that I see.

3. I already have five 17x9 in. SSR wheels, and all I want is four wheels for rain tires. I was thinking the Cobra SVT wheels until all this came along. For rain, do I need such a tough wheel? Or should I be thinking these for race and use the SSRs for rains?

Rich,
Get in touch with Greg and he will give you some details. Check your PM's (Private Messages).
I won't be able to get back on the board for a day or so.

I got a PM from GC, but there was no price info.

Your SSR's are 17x9? Those things fit awesome clearance-wise, what size tire are you running? Is there any more body work than meets the eye on your car? It looks really stock!

Rich,
The offset we chose will fit any Mitsubishi application from a 1G all the way to an EVO one.
I would use these for race and the SSR for rain.

Well, at such a good deal you could buy two sets, use them with different tires and in case something goes wrong...
Or you could do something else too. Since everybody else wanted Anthracite including me you can choose those too. I don’t have an engine for my car and there are no signs of building one in the near future so if you need one…

That is only a 7" but you can see the color.
Chris,
Are you still going with the silver ones? Guys are thinking about what you said and order extra wheels just in case.

Yeah, I'm going with Silver. I wish I had the cash to do two sets right now... We still have to pay our tax bill and a few other things - everything's coming up at once. Times are tight and the money I got from selling my old wheels is disappearing quickly - I wish I had more stuff I could sell, anyone want to buy an almost new lawn mower? :)

Rich,
Did you get my PM? I don't want you to think I'm ignoring you or anything.

Yes, I did. Thanks. I thought I responded to you, but maybe not.

I don't see any advantage in buying another set of race wheels at this point. I hate to pass up such a good deal, but I can spend the money elsewhere. I still need a ton of stuff done to my car.

Any word on when the wheels are gonna be shipped to the US yet? I can't wait to see what they will look like on a 2g

Yeah, I'm wondering when we can expect to see them as well.
Yeah. I know mitch said they would be loading in a week or so, that was a month ago. I sent him a email but he is probally swamped. I am just getting excited to see them. I am hoping they are here or on their way.

Sorry for the delay responding to you guys. I cant email you because Engintecs.com was hacked.

Anyway I was on the phone with England yesterday and I was told that our wheels were not included in the container that should hit the US this month. Because of their government mandated 2 weeks shutdown, they were not able to heat treat and paint all the wheels in time. The only good news is the fact that we will try to get more than what we ordered in the country to avoid future long waiting times.

Like I said before delivery time is completely out of my hands but I know that TD is doing their best to get them here as soon as the can.
I will let you guys know when I have any more news.

I am told that the container leaves UK tomorrow only. Estimated delivery: 4 weeks starting early next week. I'm pretty disappointed but there's nothing I can do. I want those wheels and so do the rest of the guys so we have to take it as it is.
Too bad we didn't make the decision earlier this season. It is going to be better in the future but we are hurting for the first batch.
There are two ways to ship the wheels over here. One takes around 5 weeks and the other is faster, about 3 weeks. I am told that our wheels will be sent the faster way and that’s why with customs and stuff they should be here towards the end of the month.

I appreciate all you have done for us Mitch. Thanks!!!!
Also thank you for keeping us updated. I hope these wheels turn out to work as well as we all hope. Thanks for all your hardwork and research in this project.

I "second" the note of appreciation and all the energy and effort you constantly put out for the Tuners! :thumb:

Now get back to work... ;)

Does anyone have specific experience with fitting 17x9's with 255/40 tires and about 27mm offset on a 2g? That offset's a bit lower than what I'd shoot for, from what I've been reading. Unfortunately it's not as easy to increase offset as it is to decrease it...

My main concern is whether it's even possible to roll the fenders enough, or if fender flares are necessary/available.

These would have to fit with street friendly camber and about 1-1.5" drop. I'd be running fairly standard coilover springs in the 550/380 range, and stiffer antiroll bars. I'm not worried about occasional slight rubbing, as long as it's tolerable.

There's no way that set-up is going to tuck in. But 380 rear springs will make that almost irrelevant. Just don't hit a bump with rear passengers and/or crap in the trunk.

The front won't be an issue? The front seems to experience more lean in cornering. Any rubbing at extreme steering angles?

You say this setup won't tuck in. Is there any similar setup that will? Like with a higher offset?

The only way to get 255s to tuck in the rear is to not space out the rear upper arms and run exactly the right offset, which is something like +36. The front is not really an issue since you usually hit the bump-stop before the tire hits the fender. Plus, the front fenders are not structural, so you can cut and bend all you wish. The reason you can't get much more room in the rear via body-shop tricks is that the weld inside the rear lip is where two rather important pieces of the unibody are bonded. The lip can be rolled up a bit, but not cut or bent severely.

245/40/17 on a 17x8 or 17x8.5 +40. Seriously. The next step up is 285/30/18 and there's nothing really good in between.

You're waiting for the ProRace 1.2 in 17x9 right? Do you know if they will be shipping any 17x8's along with them?

Ray's Gram Light 57S 17x 8.5" +30 (19.3 lbs ea.), Toyo RA-1's 255/40/17

Rear fenders rolled to fit previous Konig Villians.

Front fenders massaged a little, front fender liner bolt removed. SPC aluminum upper control arms used for extra camber, no additional caster used to this point.

I needed to gain additional negative camber in the front in order to get the tires to tuck under instead of hit the under side of the fender. If I had rolled the front fenders more it might not have been an issue. I didn't because I knew I would be adding more camber via upper control arm modifications in the near future.

In the rear the tires just polish the dirt off the paint on the upright. I will be using a 3mm spacer just as a precaution. I have used these wheels on track in this current configuration for two seasons.
