What wheels/tires (sizes especially) would be best for driving on unpaved roads (gravel, dirt, potholes, etc.)? I want wheels that won't break and tires that won't bubble in the sidewall or blow out easily.

Please don't tell me to get a different car or a truck. I already realize that DSMs are not the best vehicles for this type of driving, just hoping to make the best out of the situation since I need new wheels and tires anyway.

Well, I'm not sure on brands or anything else, but you're going to want plenty of sidewall, so I'd suggest getting the smallest rims that fit over your brakes. This will give more flex in the sidewall to keep the wheels from taking the stress of bumps.

The rims dont matter as much, but like said, just get a bigger tire.

Few of my friends go on country roads all the time with their 19's and low pros on.

Just drive carefully.

Just something with a bigger sidwall and narrow. something with a 70 series and 195-205 wide. THe sidewall will give more cushion overall but will be sloppier for asphault (mostly just racing)

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm thinking stock 16s and 205/55/16 tires might be good enough. Would there be a big advantage in dropping to 15s? Hell, it's got to be better than my 17s with low pros.

I guess I have the same question for suspension, because my stock suspension just hates bumps. I definitely don't want to lose any ground clearance, though.

Winterforce tires are very tough (and great for rallycrossing). Toss them on some steelies and have fun.

Steelies are just steel rims with a lot of metal on them (like the spare rim) correct?

Where do I find them? I'm having enough trouble just finding stock wheels in my area. Would stock wheels be roughly as good? Seems like they're stronger than most aftermarket wheels, anyway.

Goto a junk yeard and pick em up. They usually have plenty of steelies to go around.
