I been going over some numbers here. these numbers are from the s16g compressor wheel.

14b compressor wheel is: (ind.) 1.695" (exd.)2.285"

The stock compressor inside diam. is 1.725" +-.001"

that gives the space between the wheel, and the housing 0.030"

So I need to machine my housing out to 1.860" as the s16g wheel is 1.830".

My question is, the exducer size between the two wheels is .080". I'm thinking that part of the housing needs to be machined out also.

14b (exd.) 2.285"
16g (exd.) 2.365"

Are you doing the machining and assembling yourself?
If you're not, you may be better off finding a good used one or even a new one by the time you paid a turbo shop to do all the machine work, new wheels and rebuild.
I paid $125 shipped for my b16g a lot of miles ago for example, LOL.

Right thats what I am trying to figure to get right.

You're going to need to get a 16g cover to copy. It is only worth doing if you plan on making a production run. Believe me, i know from experience. Building turbos from parts is not worth it when new ones are $550. $100 to balance, $100 for rebuild kit, $1-200 in cores for parts, which usually are messed up. Almost every center housing you find will need bored for oversized bearings if there is any wear at all in the bearing journals, another $100. Then there is all of the time and headache involved.

I wish you could get a cover machined for $30. I was quoted $125 by several places to machine a evo III compressor cover to fit a 20g wheel and they share the same exducer size.

$30 at turbo rebuild shop to machine CHRA and Comp housing, don't you be a hero.

LOL why does the chra need to be machined?

Theres really nothing wrong with my turbo. I figured I could get a wheel, and rebuild kit. Then machine the housing, and be good to go. It wouldn't take me very much of my time to setup and run it. I've been laid off for three weeks now, so I'm looking for something to do.:thumb:

14B, Small 16G, and Big 16G / 18G / 20G compressors have three different backplate diameters. You need to get the center housing machined to fit the compressor backplate or the turbo will never go together and spin freely.

forget it, I'm just going to rebuild the 14b. The kit is only 74.99.

The kit on Ebay from Extreme Performance, is it tried, and proved good? They also sell a all mits. parts kit, which is funny.

Have you taken it apart to diagnose the cause of failure?
If you were going to upgrade, you might as well upgrade to a 20g compressor.

Its got a little shaft play, maybe 1/8th" side to side, zero in, out. If I turn hard to the left (180*) it smokes a bit, But theres not anything really gone bad yet. I just thought since I have the time I'd rebuild it while I have the chance. And while I'm doing that I'd put a s16g wheel in there, and port the exhaust housing to 7cm.

You could ask JUSMX if he has a 16g chra he could sell you, or buy a blown one from the classifieds for a $100. Don't give up now brother we can help.
