14b and big 16g turbine housing

I bought an Big 16g turbo on ebay, it had bad crack in the turbine housing so I bought a ported 14b turbine housing.

Turns out that both housings are same size and have same part number.
So is it small 16g I bought?

because from what I searched, true big16g have 7cm housing.

How can you tell 6cm housing from 7cm housing?

The turbine housings are all the same for the 14b and all 16g variants - all have the TD05H turbine housings. The difference between a small and big 16g is the compressor wheel, so you'd have to use the compressor wheel to distinguish which one you got. Hope that helps.

It isn't the exhaust housing that you are talking about is it?
If so the 7cm housing should be stamped with the number 070 .

No. But, you are right that they are all designated TDO5H. That is what's confusing... Go here There are TDO5H housings that have very different A/R ratios (6 cm2, 7 cm2, 8 cm2). All 16Gs and the 18g come from MHI with 7 cm2 housings. 20gs: 7 cm2 or 8 cm2. 14bs have a TDO5H designation but with a 6 cm2 turbine housing.

To the original poster look on the compressor side of the turbine housing towards the inlet. there will be a 060, 070, or an 080 (6 cm2, 7 cm2, and 8 cm2 respectively). A true 14b housing will have 060. If it is ported, it is probably ported to 7 cm2. The ebay deal you got probably came with a 14b housing that was ported to 7 cm2 making it a true 16g for all practical purposes. You have to go to the nomenclature on the compressor side for determining whether or not you have a small, big or, evo3 16g.

NOTE: you can have a compressor housing cut to fit a larger wheel; i.e., I have an 18g compressor wheel in a 14b housing. It looks like a stock 14b (but i have a 7 cm2 turbine housing though ).

7cm^2 housings are for FP Reds and 20g's, not 14b's. Throw a 6cm^2 housing on your 14b and I guarantee you will notice zero difference but faster spool.

I have an 18G. It is in a 14B compressor housing. The compressor housing has a very small impact on performance. But. It is an 18G. I DO agree that a 7 cm2 housing is wasteful for a 14B though.
