Correct gentlemen. But, he said REAR END. I was just clarifying that. But with the 100lbs Leon stated, that puts it right in line with 250lbs heavier than FWD.

Everyone is right today. Yah.

Steven

Huh? You must have missed Leon's first sentence....

:shhh: don't correct me ROFL don't ask me why I was thinking he was talking about the axles not the driveshaft.

And to the guy saying that drive train lag was suposed to be dirve train loss I think he was reffering to the fact that the distance the power has to travel is longer obviously to get to the rear wheels then just the front before all of the useable power is at the wheels. I think the diffrence is less then a second though.

" As light as is basically possible" in an AWD is around 2300 #'s. I used to work on one awhile back.

Hmmmmmm, I wonder which one? LOL, aslong as it still appers to be a street car the sky is the limit. I have a daily driver now and have started to use the plasma cutter, so it's still a work in progress. Whatever get's cut, you'll never be able to see what missing.:shhh:

You guys are a trip to say the least. You act as if nitrous is a sin or something.

Not a sin. It's my opinion that the 14b record should be held by someone that uses only a 14b to get to a certain time record. Now if there is a 14b+nitrous record, you're all set.

It seems to me that there are two records held by the same guy, in a dedicated FWD drag car. The only numbers I pay attention to are no nitrous numbers.

So, 10.84 is the #1 spot, 11.64 is the #2 spot, that's it.

Phil

You can break it down into as many records as you want. Personally I like to think of it as these six which obviously will overlap somewhat.
Overall 14b record no nitrous
Overall 14b record w/nitrous
AWD no nitrous
AWD w/nitrous
fwd no nitrous
fwd w/nitrous

Kind of complicated but it lets everyone see who was the fastest with which platform using what power mods.

Makes sense, but, at that point I'd throw in Stock Engine/Stock Turbo, but, then it will be, stock engine but rebuilt with 8.5:1 and no balance shafts......or ME=stock ORIGINAL 80,500 mile never been apart engine with stock turbo that has NEVER been removed.....

if we break it down enough, alot of us are record holders!

like you said.....we could make as many different 14b records as we want..........that's why I figured FWD and AWD, but maybe the NO NOS & NOS separations are more appropriate.

Phil

So...

Overall 14b record no nitrous-Joe B.
Overall 14b record w/nitrous-Joe B.
AWD no nitrous-Leon R.
AWD w/nitrous-Nate C.
fwd no nitrous-Joe B.
fwd w/nitrous-Joe B.

Sounds about right to me. You're right though Phil things could get really complicated, but I truly think this makes it easy to distinguish and covers the different platforms, plus the addition of a second power adder. If people want to get crazy with the different modifications other then just the turbo/nitrous then you seem to be grasping at straws. :D

Yeah....pretty much! So, basically the 4 categories then. It does make sense to distinguish AWD and FWD for sure as it's plain to see that AWD is no longer the great advantage it can be, at least at the top of the 14b foodchain anyway. Obviously, in DSM world, the AWD cars are the quickest and fastest. I'd like to see what Joe B. will do in the future on bigger turbos. I know we have one DSM FWD at 8.99 in the 1/4, I'm thinking that's the quickest to date. Other makes(honda, etc.) obviously have FWD cars in the 7's, but they are purpose built tube cars....I suppose a purpose built tube FWD DSM could do the same.

Anyway, let's hope we can battle for one of the titles in '08. It's time for a change in rulers!

Phil

Have to add in another class for me, I plan on running a 14b in my stripped (2000lb) colt. :D

That will be cool...but, I myself will only consider '90-'94 T/E/L. There are several 3000 GT's with TWIN 14b's on the 14b best times list and I don't even count them, they skew the list. Unfortunately, your platform is different therefore it is not quite relevant to what I think of as far as this conversation goes. This is my opinion.

Phil

Yep, pushing a smaller turbo to the limit can be fun and rewarding. I'd love to crack an 11sec 1/4 mile on my T28 but I'm gonna have to find creative ways to pull another +30-50 h.p. out of the motor/turbo to do it. Weight removal is not on the table for me just yet.

I can't count the number of times I've contemplated swapping to a bigger turbo. With what skill I gained tuning my smaller turbo I could have had a 450 h.p. daily driver without major effort.

The major problem is, once I add up all the little mods that might get me that extra 30 h.p. and all the money it would take to properly lighten the car, it'd be cheaper to buy that FP3052 and supporting mods I've always wanted and make some real power.

Decisions.... decisions.

'Getting creative'
That's the point of sticking with a stock turbo, you have to use your brain and come up with other ways to go fast. It's easy to reach into the wallet and buy more HP, but HP isn't the only way to be fast.

With that said, I sure do enjoy my GT35! :)

To me, the idea of going fast with a small turbo is all about extracting the most out of the turbo. Thus demonstrating small turbo’s full potential! Adding another power adder defeats the purpose of this exercise! I mean, at that point, why even run a turbo?

With enough N20, you can completely get rid of the turbo and run a crazy NT/N20 motor! But then, they wouldn't let you compete in the NT class, now would they? :)

This is exactly what I"m trying to do now. Who cares about running in the NA class:notgood: A NA's dream is to just be fast not just fast for a NA :rocks:

As I had originally thought in my head......if we rule out NOS 14b runs.

I agree, but we need to keep the natives happy haha! As for the colt, I too had the same idea. I think it will fit somewhere into the scheme of things, but overall it is not a dsm and does not officially take "this record". :dsm::talon::laser:

My sentiments exactly. Eh, I should really bold the whole thing :p

Who cares about running in the NA class:notgood:

Um.......I do. ;)

I might care as much as you in the near future! I did think of you when I read that the first time.....
