They probably could, but they haven't. If you don't mind, I would like to reccomend that to Tom and Dave as a feature. They have the 1g version where the knock counter gets reset during your shift, but not what you have. Let me know if it's ok that I do that.
Sure, that would be OK with me.

Yeah dave, i remember when we were at the track you were telling me different shift points to try, but its been so long i forget. What are your shift points...?

he talked about shifting in this thread and the other one he posted the link for, you have to search for it a little bit, but basically, higher than normal.

as for dynoing, no he hasn't dynoed the car yet

as far as Im concerned

What RPM's do you shift that 14b at? and have you had a chance to dyno it?
I haven't dyno'd it, and I don't plan to dyno it since the mods will change soon.
Looking at the log I hit the 1>2 shift around 6800rpm, 2>3 at 6600, 3>4 at 6400.

He did talk about shifting. He only mentioned the launch rpm and his fourth gear shift point not the others. Thus my questioning him.

Pneumo, is this a ported 7cm or 6 cm housing? clipped or anything?

It's a ported 6cm housing, no clipping. Compressor housing has a ported inlet and outlet. The journal bearings have excessive freeplay, thrust bearing is tight.

hmm. Interesting. Did you port the compressor outlet as well?
Do you think clipping the 14b in your scenario would benefit?

I'm not sure if a clipped turbine wheel would help on the 14b. Since it's the same turbine wheel as the 16g, I felt that the hot side flowed well enough. I focused on porting the compressor housing since it needs all the help it can get.

Could you PM me, I would like to talk to you about chips etc

Im very interested to get advise from you, help a brotha out?

Thats very impressive the driving and how the car is running, do you have AIM my screen name is slick1851

I was running 11 -13 psi with my 14B and my car was just slow. I do have a 2g with a 1g 6 bolt with the low 7.8:1 compression which kind of sucks off boost. I managed to trap like 92mph boo hoo. My intake temps were really high that day like 110F due to my exhaust leak inbetween the turbo and the o2 housing. My o2 sensor was a little off because of it so I am sure that caused my performance loss.

It is unbelievable that you managed to pull those numbers. I have the same motor and everything and can't even come close. Are the 1G's a lot lighter or something?

Awesome job man:thumb: I'm trying to get my FWD 14B with stock injectors into the 12's and im pretty close. here is my thread I know I found a page before about the diffence between gear rations in the FWD and AWD trannys and I wish i could find it again. I'm pushing 72-7300 RPM across the finish line in 3rd gear.

edit* found it.. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/Trannies.html
looks like AWD are geared a little better for the track.

check his profile, his motor is not stock.

DSMcamaro, you should try the shifting points that dave mentioned a few posts up. Winding the car passed 7k with stock cams and a 14b is getting out of the powerband. It wouldnt hurt to try it next time you go to the track. I know im going to try it even with my small 16g. It could net you that .15 that you need to get into the 12s! :thumb:

I tryed 4th a couple times.... the first time i missed it...so I was a little uneasy about trying it agian but on one of my later runs I ended up breaking the tires loose on the launch and decided to go for 4th and hit it but only trapped at 101. Keep in mind the gear ratios are differnt between the FWD and AWD so the shifting points he stated may not work aswell. I have only about 20 feet or so left before the trap,so I usually just tough it out and wind it up in 3rd.

yeah i hear ya, when i had a gst i would never touch 4th gear at the dragstrip. I forgot how much left i had in the gear. That car was a pretty stock 1g running high 14's/ low 15's so i fugured a higher hp car might be touching 4th.

Ask dave what his d/d laser's shift points are... He is running about the same times with that car as your car.

I try to shift my Laser around 2500rpm in all gears! It's my DD, I try to get good gas mileage so I shift it like a diesel. LOL Honestly, I forget the exact shift points when I raced my fwd. Like DSMCamaro said, the gearing is different so the shift points change. I remember that the FWD has a taller first gear and taller 4th, so the jump from 1>2 is smaller on the FWD, and the jump from 3>4 is bigger on the fwd. First gear has too much wheelspin, so I shift earlier. I like to look at the log and see where the rpm drops to after a shift, then make sure the rpm didn't go too low, and to make sure I didn't go too high by over-reving the previous gear. Try to keep the rpm at the start and end of each gear centered around the HP peak, or maybe skewed slightly higher.

so thats how you get 32 mpg.... i cant stay out of boost when i drive. D/D shifting at 3.5-4k for that little pep of boost to hit in at the top of gears... haha

Ha, yeah 32mpg on a bad day. My Talon may be 'Project 11's' but my Laser is "Project MPG"! I gotta do something while I'm lazily droning to work every day, so I tune it for mileage. It's nice having a lightweight fwd car with a TRE taller 5th gear and a custom eprom. :thumb:

I wish I could convince my parents to let me sell the minivan and buy a fwd 1g.... it makes so much sence, they just don't want me having two talons,... for some strange reason.....

I have been itching to go to the track again lately dave, whens your car going to be ready again, and what mods will it have? maybe you should bust the fwd out again.
