haha my talon gets 18mpg on a good day! We'll see what happens with the new motor though.

Brian give me like 1 month and i'll be ready for the track! Dont hold your breath though, paul keeps taking on little jobs when he should be workin on my car!!!

like say... my car? LOL

I just realized, I should probably shift at the same points dave did. hmmmm sometimes my brain works really, REALLY slow.

The 14b doesn't have much top end, so the shift points are pretty low. When I was practicing I would watch the boost gage instead of the tach. When boost fell by 2 or 3 psi I would shift. There's no point in riding the tach up to 7k when boost is down to 15psi.

Coincidentally, it'll take about a month before my Talon is ready again. I need to break in a new clutch after it's back together and sort out the tuning along the way. It'll be nice to have some serious top end power!
One of the last steps to getting my car back together with the new mods is to have Paul weld up a tubular O2 housing and wastegate dump tube. We're keeping him busy! Rumor has it Paul is putting the 14b back on his car. I wonder if he'll take it to the track? hmmm...

On second thought, I'm not sure if DSMLink could duplicate some ot the code I'm using to eliminate knock during a shift. Has anyone seen knock jump up just as you shift gears? I did. It kills the power through the rest of the gear. So I installed a couple features to eliminate it while still leaving the knock code fully active the instant the shift is done. One part comes from Jeff O. of KeydiverChips. It was originally part of his Lean Burn Code, but I snipped out a section. His code basically resets knock to zero when NLTS is active. The second part is a feature in the timing map that I developed. It keeps timing at the same level during a shift instead of spiking up. I'm not sure if you could do that with DSMlink?
I had to do something similar. With NLTS my knock count would spike up in between gears. I don't know if it was phantom knock or if it really was hitting a bit of knock when the fuel was cut off suddenly but I adapted some of Kyle Tarry's phatom knock elim code to simply set the knock count to zero when the clutch is pressed in.

I might have a eprom this week, what would you need to know about my car?

I would like to have NLTS and A sutter box setup but how to tune with the eprom and buring chips is somthing I dont know a whole lot about. What would you change on the map? Etc let me know what u think.

I just have my AFC and Ive got a Aem wide band gauge that im putting in.

Is your car considered "stock appearing". If so did you run in the DSM Shootout a month or so ago? Congrats on gettin in the 11's

I'm guessing that since he's from Cali and the Shootout is in Ohio that he didn't attend.

From what Paul told me a bike cop stopped him outta the blue when he came to a stop because he had a light out and then the usual "pop your hood" crap ensued:( , so that's why you may have heard he might be going back to the 14b:coy: .

that was a bit random, but yes, pauls car is completely 100% stock... minus the fact that he said "my low and high fuel trims were pegged at 81% because of my 255"

I think the fuel pump is one of the few things he left on. Its got everything else stock though... I guess. Its got a cali egr on his federal car.... along with a cat off who knows WHAT car. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't even a dsm, LOL. Hey paul, your still up for working on my car, RIGHT? ROFL

looks like due to unforseable issuse, I'll be on the 14b for longer than planned. Hopefully we will see two dsm's from the bay area pullin 11's on the 14b. Of corse it will take me a few more trips to the track than it did for dave. I think he only took three trips and his third netted an 11 second slip. Im guessing I'll need a full seasons worth if not more.

Right Dream On, I didn't attend the shootout this year. It was a long enough drive just going to Sacramento, never mind Ohio! My car also doesn't look stock, it's almost completely gutted inside, different wheels, race seat, and plenty of changes are visible under the hood. I'll see if I can find a flattering pic for y'all.

The cat on Pauls car is a generic cat I bought from Kragen a couple years ago. It's not a true DSM unless it has parts from at least 5 other DSM's on it! :)

Nah, the 14b is off the car and the new setup is almost complete. I was using the 14b and stock parts as a transition between my previous setup and the next. I really didn't plan on trying for an 11 second time with the 14b and stock stuff, it was just for fun while I built up the new mods. But then I got into the mid 12's easily, so I decided to try for a little more power, and that dropped me down to 12.06 the next time out. At that point I knew I had to try for 11's. It's weird how much harder it was going from 12.06 to 11.98.

It helps that the motor, suspension, tranny, and ecu were already modded nicely for drag racing, it made it so much easier. I had also pushed the car into the mid 11's on the previous mods (50trim, cams, fmic, etc) so I had experience driving into the 11's, which helps a lot. If you've ever seen a datalog of the stutterbox>launch>1-2 shift you'd know how quick everything happens. There's no time to watch the tach and plan the shift, it has to happen instinctively and precisely. I hope that experience carries over once my new setup is complete. Getting into the tens seems within reach, but I'm sure it's a whole world apart.

Well sad to hear your leaving it behind but can't wait to hear about the new setup. I was hoping you'd try again with the 14b with a nice set of cams and such. Just to see how much they would help you gain. Keep us updated once the new setup gets on though!
