Another 14b 11 second car! Finally!

Phil and I were just talking about that yesterday. There's alot of mods I'd like to do, but none would net me anywhere near the gains that a lighter weight set of wheels and slicks would do. It's tough to do slicks when you drive your car to the track, but I can throw them in the back and swap them and run. Or, I can step up and get a tow vehicle, already have a trailer I can use It's cool to be able to say I hit 11's on a 14b with street tires but from here on out who cares.

It would most likely be a good investment. But, I understand how it's tough to decide to cross the line from street car. But, lots of Mustang, Camaro, Vette, etc. guys throw slicks on at the strip. Nothing wrong with it. Do it up! My vote is for bringing slicks and keeping your car registered. Once you've experienced slicks, go from there...

That's more then likely what I'll do. There's still quite a few people who do that, Fonz did it for a long time and probably still is. But, for now it'll be a saving process, slicks and wheels ain't cheap!

Unfortunately, that jack/impact gun aren't very useful if you blow the HG, snap the Xcase and axles, or any of the 4 million ways a DSM can break at the track and leave you stranded.

Not to mention once the car becomes "trailer queen"....then you don't feel bad really pushing the envelope in weight loss that is not streetable.

Powerband...But, my 60's suck actually, even for street tires I should be able to be consistently in the mid 1.6's.

UPDATE! 9-26-12 Milan Dragway!

With all the talk of what was left in it I decided to take it one more time this year on the street tires to see what could happen. Gutted about 60-70 lbs. out of the car over the last few to prepare for it. Ended up playing with suspension during the runs and turned the boost up to 22ish psi from 21 psi for the last 3 runs. Tire pressure started at 22psi front and 20 psi rear. Here's the breakdown.

1st pass: 11.998 @ 114.74 with a 1.791 60' (Soft rear/tight front, not so much)
2nd pass: Blown pass...
3rd Pass: 11.859 @ 114.78 with a 1.681 60' (Tight rear/soft front) Suspension helped
4th Pass: 11.876 @ 115.34 with a 1.703 60' Track started to give way a little more (same suspension) *Turned boost up to 22psi made more power as seen in mph.
5th Pass: 11.881 @ 115.63 with a 1.730 60' (no changes) track got busy, took longer in the lanes, night air began to cool pretty good for the mph change. Track really giving way as I came out going sideways lighting up all 4.
6th Pass: 11.812 @ 115.69 with a 1.659 60' (18 psi in all 4 tires) Good suggestion from Phil Beers to lower the tire pressure, worked out and netted me an even better personal best!

You can link to the timeslip through my profile for the breakdown of the best run. The wifey got some videos but the last pass got messed up by another spectator getting in the way of the camera. I'll put together a short vid and post it if I can though.

So, overall I think a 11.7xx is possible on the street tires, optimal track conditions, weather, launch control, and shifting dependent. I'm not going to waste more track visits trying for a couple hundreths though. I considered last night a win by bettering my time by just under a tenth, but there's better times to be had with track rubber. Let the saving up begin.

Thanks Phil! And thanks for recommending lowering the tire pressure. I knew I was making more power with the extra boost but couldn't put it down the track. Lowering the pressure got me the 60' to use it.

It's been some time coming, thanks! The runs did get fairly consistent there didn't they, at least I know my driving is pretty much consistent!

I don't like the word bang...reminds me of broken parts!

But, if launched correctly slicks will actually save the drivetrain more then street tires. It sure would be cool to see what it could do on slicks, even if they were 26" ones. Even if I don't get out, it's a very generous offer. I really hope I can do it though!

a 1.6 flat on streets yeah, it'd probably get that 11.7xx. But I hit an 11.659 which is ok I suppose.

Congrats!! If your race weight (with you) is 2750 and you're trapping 115.69 mph it calculates to 332 whp. If you factor ABOUT a 20% AWD loss you're at 398 flywheel horsepower. I'd call it 400 and be happy!!

I still say 11.5's can be done on street tires. Maybe some limiting straps for the front? would help out on the launch? Some people swear by them. I have no experience though. Just food for thought.

It's tough to say. I think 1.62-1.63 60's are possible with optimal conditions, maybe even better. But, optimal conditions are very hard to come by. You can make more power then I am as I'm still conservative on afr's and timing, plus there are better hards parts and speed density tuning. So I won't say it's not possible to hit mid 11's, just that ot would be very difficult!
