ok my tranny is going and i duno how much it would be for a new one or rebuilt or used one? and how much do you think it would be to change to a manual? or do you think i should just buy a new car? the car only has 74k on it and everything is good cept for the tranny and needs paint job but i just need to get around to that.

In my personal experience, the manual transmissions are easier to find and much more reliable. The auto transmissions tend to be brittle and sensitive. Other people will tell you other things but like I said, this is my personal experience.

auto tranny's suck LOL.. they are really week like said above and usually don't last anymore than 125k miles. id swap a manual tranny in. i have bin told that they can't be rebiult they have to be replaced, and the cheepest new one i have found was $850.00 shipped..I wouldn't replace it with a used one becuase after about a month it will go bad too..
www.vfaq.com has a faq on how to swap auto to manual and tells you what all is needed and has to be done :thumb:

ok so it woukld be pretty much pointless to put in another automatic in and i could get maunal for about a grand or paint and sell the car for 2gs LOL i think im gonan fix er up and sell it

Ive had a couple auto trannies die on me before, trust me it not worth it. Id buy a used tranny off www.car-parts.com drop it in, detail the car and sell it quick. Swapping in a manual is an expensive pain in the ass and the 1.8 is very limited. Probably easier to buy a different car.
