Hi all!
I have upgraded the turbo to evo3 big 16g on my 1998 eclipse gsx. Other than front mount intercooler the rest is stock.
Since there is no way of tuning the stock 98 ECU I have bought a used 95/96 ECU which is converted to 98 with ECMLink.
Stock ECU: MD346676
ECMlink ECU: MD312464.

The car runs fine on the stock ECU however with the ECMLink ECU it wont start and backfires a lot.
Probably because all the values are programmed to a different Eclipse. (the guy i bought it from had a very tuned 98 gst)

I need to find a base tune so i can start it and drive to the dyno tuner.
I've read on the forum that there is an option to reset to default But this would probably reset to a 95/96 base tune. I am completley new to ECMLink, trying to figure things out.

Really appreciate all help and comments.

You probably need to switch the wires on the 2 coils. The 95 ecu has a different firing order.

Thank you. I found this at ecmtuning. com. i'll try that. 👍

According to this wiki, and assuming your ECMLink ECU has not had a 97+ conversion, you need to find the setting to “use non-95/96 style cam angle sensor” and swap plug wires as already discussed.
How would you know if it has had the conversion?

I just plugged in a ECMLink ECU, changed the coil order and clicked the box to "use non 95/96 style cam angle sensor". I am pretty much stock in terms of major changes all I have is an intake and catback. I've been reverting the ECU to "stock" tune and from what I can tell and from what I know (very little) it should be running as it was before I took my black box out, but it runs rich and backfires at idle.

"While installing the conversion we will move jumper J5 to J1 to convert the ECU to a 97."

So you would have to open up the ecu and locate jumper J1 & J5 to see what is connected.
