Story of my life down here. I can deal with the heat it’s the humidity and damn bugs that make me wanna kill!

My mom had a house in Ft. Myers. Thankfully it had AC and a Pool cause that's were I spent most of my time when I was there. She had a service for the bugs but the dead ones I'd find could have fought me for my lunch.

I tried to convince the wife to get a canal home so I could park the boat in the back yard but she wasn't having any of it.

Around my house is the worst. No where I go in this state is it as bad. Everyone who ever comes to help work around here or whatever all say the same thing, like bro, why are they so bad here? 10 seconds and your face and ears are covered in gnats with the mosquitoes fighting for second place. It’s unreal.

...Florida is like taking a hot bath while youre walking with the most annoying bugs that all want to be your best friend....

I use to lay 300 degree asphalt on 100 degree days but the 3 days i spent in Florida for a friends wedding is near the top of my list most uncomfortable experiences Ive ever had. Only place Id consider to be worse was Baton Rouge.

Who's up for some redneck engineering? Somebody here has done this. Im looking to build a redneck cooler. Ive seen some guys with a 5 gallon bucket, some ice etc blow some cold air. The better ones use a small pump, a coil and managed to get some outlet temps of 50 degrees with an inlet of 90. Im not looking to cool my garage. Just provide some directed air for maybe an hour or so while I do a oil change etc. Going in garage right now is mostly a no go situation at 100 plus degrees.
Cooling the garage isn't in the budget right now.
Anybody done this? Results?

What are your humidity levels like? I'm thinking something like an evaporative cooler, so a fan blowing or sucking through wet towels or foam. Maybe need an aquarium pump or something to keep them wet. Added bonus if use ice water. Works best if could be in a northern facing window for fresh air and an exit window opposite.

I've done the full cooler, recycled A-coil from central air, water pump, M18 battery.....to be the cooling cart for grass drag snowmobiles!!!

When you run on grass, the heat exchanger which normally gets snow kicked up on it tends to be added weight and complication. So you get rid of it.
Running snowmobiles in the high friction, low cooling summer environment requires an intervention to cool things down.
You melt through ice quickly, and also, the cylinder head is cool to the touch in about 15 seconds after circulating so you're ready to make another hit.

To utilize this form of heat transfer for personal comfort; you'd need a full body suit with quick connect fittings to be of any help.

For those not familiar with Grass/Ice drag racing sled setup, the changes to a typical machine really only involve a means of cooling-down, traction studs in the track, re-jetting for the (much) warmer weather, AIR FILTERS instead of air boxes, and re-calibration of the CVT clutch/secondary shifting for the different load.

Pretty typical clutch engagement target of 7000+ rpm; it clamps the drive belt abruptly!!

I thought about this but Oklahoma humidity is too high. That is why I wanted to use a coil/heat exchanger. Same as an AC unit only the cooling medium is provided and obviously a limited time frame. It's only practical for short term. My motivation is I think I can do it for under 40$ and maybe an hours time. Just don't want to if won't work.

I was in my shop today for about an hour and was it hot. Thermometer said 96. I had 2 36" fans blowing on me until I gave up until tomorrow morning. It is dangerously hot and worse this afternoon at 102-105 + the heat index of 110-115

It will work, the question is will it work well enough to make it worth it.

Two coils, one in icewater and one in front of a fan with a pump between them. If you have a clean oil cooler or two that will work with a big box fan.

You can get a 12000 btu mini split heat pump for as little as $600 or a 14000 btu portable for around $400 if you just want to buy something.

Its crazy, Ive been thinking a mini split or even a Ptac unit for the garage, both are around 1000$. Mini would be nice to help heat/cool my breezeway, but Ptac would do the trick as well. Only downfall for the Ptac is framing an opening and refinishing a wall

Don't know. Name brands are still expensive but it's not like this is rocket science so the Asian cloners have been busy and google found some "inexpensive" options.

Well I could "claim" this is my cooling fan but I bought a Windmill for the front yard, after rebuilding my mom's which must be 30-50 yrs old. It came in this box with a zillion mini screws and nuts when I thought I'd have to take my pickup to get it......wrong.
It was a fun "puzzle' and will look nice outside where I can see it.
I'll post a pic of it outside tomorrow.

It’s so hot I might have to redesign my PAC(Penis Air Conditioning) system from highschool.

I'll upset you guys a little then by saying I just got back from a 2 week vacation in Nova Scotia, first part of the trip was actually cold, down to 51 on one day, most were in the low 60's, back into the low 80's on when we got closer to home. Actually had to run the heat in the RV for a few nights.

I did bring the DSLR to get some good ocean sunset pictures, I'll get them off the camera later this week.

Got the engine into the car today. Long tube headers and intake installed and solid (welded steel) mounts... Need to rebuild the 40mm dcnf carb next and change out the coupler in the Ford m90 supercharger... Inch by inch it's getting there...

Little by little, the new $600 "farm truck" is getting all the broken things fixed. Its a new project and we'll drive it for now but I have V-8's in the wings, waiting.
It has the 4.3 V6 and runs fine it just looks beat up because it is. We'll fix all that!
