So I have been think about getting a early 6 bolt oilfilter housing. I keep loosing my ebay auctions for them. Then I thought about this kit:

eBay Motors: New TD Filter Relocation Kit 1990-04 Mitsubishi Eclipse (item 220147416073 end time May-02-08 21:22:32 PDT)

Seems nice and I can use whatever size an fittings I want or the supplied hoses. If I got this kit would it hurt to run a air/oil cooler in-line?

Reason for going this route:

o This kit is about the same price as a early oil filter housing

o It allows me to relocate my oil filter which is real close to my DP anyway

o When I switch to my holset turbo I should have no problems going to a 3 inch DP

o will be simple to plumb in a external oil cooler and allow me to keep the stock water oil cooler

Sam, you would also need some 90* fittings for the best possible downpipe clearance. If you had some way to tie in a temperature regulated valve for the oil cooler, then yes, you could plumb one in. Without a regulated valve, your oil could get cooler than it is intended to be.

I thought about all kinds of options, but I decided on the good ol' 90 oil filter housing with a cooler. Eventually I'll probably relocate the filter for some more clearance, but it isn't much of a problem anymore, so who knows.

try and look into a B&M kit. i got mine for $25. the kit is fairly simple and easy to install. all you would have to get is some 90 degree fittings.

That looks good. I will be using an fittings and braided line though. Just personal preference. You havent had any problems with your setup as far as the oil being to cool or not getting to all the places it need to go, have you?

I was about to do the same thing that you were doing, but I decided to get the evo3 OFHB from a japan connection that I made for parts overthere. The only thing that I would bring to your attention is to remember, with the 90 and evo3 OFHB, there is a spring controled temp bypass. You know what I'm talking about right? Oil doesn't go to the cooler until the spring compresses itself, assuming from heat and allowing the oil to go through the mini radiator. Well, you wont have that with that setup. You might have a chance of not getting the oil up to temp where other things could occur. Off the top of my head I can't remember... But just FYI for that setup... you could always rung the 90 OFHB and a filter relocator!

I hear so many people that talk about driving thier car hard turns the oil real thin. I think this could help that situation. I know my oil pump is alittle old and when the car gets hot the pressure gets low enough to trip the dummy light. I will mess with this when I come home.
