Thunder Bay,
I'm pretty scared right now that I blew my turbo, but I'm not sure how to know if it's actually dead, or if I messed up something else. My Talon is completely stock, besides having no cat anymore. I took off onto the expressway and boosted hard up to around 100mph. I turned off the expressway and came to a stop light. When I tried taking off from the lights, my car suddenly felt like it lost half of its power. There is no more "kick" that I used to be able to feel when I started boosting. I think there is no boost at all. I know the stock boost guage isnt accurate, but it used to climb while I was boosting, now it just rests at 0 whenever I punch the gas. The car is gutless, its horrible to drive. I'm worried that I killed the turbo from boosting too hard on the highway. I wanted to know what I could check to see what exactly went wrong?

The first thing i would recommend would be to check for a loose/blown off intercooler pipe. Is the car smoking at all? Large amounts of smoke could indicate a blown turbo.

take off your intake tube and feel the compressor wheel (while it's cold so you don't burn yourself) and see if you can move it from side to side or up and down. if you can then your turbo is dead or close to it...

if not, you might want to perform a boost leak test... there are instructions on here on how to do that, just do a search on it.

i would also check the wastegate actuator arm and make sure it didn't fall off... there should be a cotter pin holding it in place.

and if your turbo is bad, don't worry, you can get another used 14b for relatively cheap (around $100-$150) so don't sweat :thumb:

get back to us and let us know.

it could easily be the actuator arm. Thats the first thing I would check before ripping the intake off. either that or check for a split in your vac line near the actuator.

strangely, the problem seems to have fixed itself, for now anyways. I drove around all day today with no boost, then came home and turned the car off. an hour later when i got back in the car, i started it up and took off, and I was making full boost again. i have no idea waht happened.

i have a question, i located the actuator arm, am i supposed to be able to see it slide if I have it in neutral and rev it up?

Probably not because you have to have full boost pressure for a second, before the actuator can fill with pressure to move. But you know it's working if your car isn't knocking or hitting fuel cut when you're full boostin, since you don't have a boost gauge

check your mas air for a loose connection, because that will cause your car to run funky, and have your " boost gauge" not work
