Well I work at an aftermarket accersories shop. Part of my job is to pick-up and deliver cars. I have driven GTOs, Bentleys 03 Mustang Cobras Several BMWs etc.

I got in not expecting much and that is what I got. The Rockford Fosgate sub hit hard. but the power was not there in the engine. I was NOT driving the GT yet it was a 5 spd. I was pretty dissapointed. The Interior is VERY bland and the outside is ok I hate the Chrome wing. Anyways If anyone has Questions . I dont know if this has been talked about before just thought I would post up. It happened several weeks ago.

What it needs to do is loose some weight. This thing would be a rocket if it lost 300 or so pounds. A heavier more powerful car is usually a more upmarket car and I think that is how Mitsubishi is marketing this car (perhaps a more grownup Eclipse). It seems to me like a highway cruiser or touring car (not necessarily a track or autocross car).

I believe if Mitsubishi can pull out of its slump and come up w/ some development money, there is room to sell a smaller, lightweight turbo and/or AWD car slotted below the 4g Eclipse based on the Evo X. Sort of a Evo but with a much more sporty shape like the beautiful 2G Eclipse/Talon. Maybe call it the Starion or something. I don't think this will happen anytime soon, though.

In the end I still would rather have a GST or GSX (much more easily tuned) but don't discredit this car because it has no turbo or AWD.

it is a sporty car as opposed to a sports car which is almost unsellable these days.

I'd like to see the return of a smaller cheaper simpler AWD turbo. Like that mini EVO one they were bandying about a while back. OR a turbo 2.4 liter AWD galant family car.

I don't tell you how to post your pics and i don't expect anyone else to tell me either.!!!!!!!!

LOL, well Defiant sure showed you, didn't he?

My take on the 06 Eclipse - if I want a big car with a v6, I'll get a Grand Prix, at least they look cooler and don't have a huge friggin ass, also I really like traction control in the new Grand Prix's. I've heard from people that saw the new Eclipse driving, that they are pretty quick. But fast or not, I'm not going to own something that ugly, though I wouldn't mind test driving one sometime. I'm sure a 3g is just as quick, and those aren't a whole lot faster, if any, than the NA 1g's and 2g's.

Alright folks, the new eclipse is here and I am starting a poll of your opinion. Tell us what you think of the new 2006 eclipse! :thumb: :notgood:

Here are some pics of the car.

Here are the specs.

The Eclipse GT has some serious kick. With 263 horsepower from its 3.8-liter MIVEC V6, the GT comes with a choice of six-speed manual or a five-speed Sportronic® automatic transmission. The list of standard features includes everything offered on the GS and more, including: traction control, a front strut tower bar, fog lights and a center display with outside temperature and compass readings.

Maximum thrill. This is what's available to buyers who choose the Premium Sport Package. With the GT's driveline components and a host of special features, this edition is the ultimate Eclipse. It features 18-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, leather front seating surfaces, a power sunroof, an eight-way-adjustable (six power) driver's seat, alloy pedals, heated front seats, heated door mirrors, automatic dimming rear-view mirror, air-conditioning and more. But it also has a 650-watt (max.) Rockford Fosgate® audio system with nine speakers, including a ten-inch trunk-mounted subwoofer, a 6-CD/MP3-compatible in-dash changer, and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

Personally, I like it a lot. The performance increase is nice, and it has a very nice look to it. My only objection is the back-end looks a lot like a 350Z.

I like the over all lines of the car, but the front end needs to lose the triangle in the grill. Mitsu really needs to ditch thier v6 they have in it and replace it with the evo's 4g63....I mean lets face it... the eclipse has gone down hill since the 2g. They've improved the design... but lets get the boost back in it!!!!!

I like it, I think it's really good looking except for the front grill section..Performance wise I'm very impressed with Mitsubishi..I just hate that damn price sticker :notgood:

I second this!! BOOST IT!! And one other thing NO GSX MODEL WTF are you thinking

I like it alot its a very sexy car. The 2g being my favorite I think this gen of eclipse takes second place. Im not so sure about it being a V6 I havent driven it yet but a boost would definantely make it more appealing.

It don't look manly enough.. :notgood:

IMO the only really "manly" looking cars are american cars and pickups. All imports are unisex (look wise) speed is something completely different.

shaped like a egg to futuristic for me and the cost is out of the roof. after the 2g there designs went to crap

i understand why they only have one sports car with the 4g63 in it, but the only problem i have is how little hp it has... 263 out of a 3.8, while nissan can make almost (i believe in some applications it does meet) 300 hp with 300 ml less displacement... not impressive...also the fact that its a front driver, if it was rear or all it would be a lot more appealing to me,... along with an extra 50 hp to put it over those 3.5L 350z's and g35's....

I like it, but the commercials make it look a lot better than it does in person, i wasnt too too impressed when i saw it in person, doesnt beat 2G but i'd still drive it :tease: ...I agree about the front end, and boostin it :thumb: , I love the commercial of it where all the cars are bowing it though ROFL

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I like the 4g. I think it sits up a little too high. Lowered with some bigger rims and lower profile tires I think that car would be awesome looking.

Let's compare the just under $30k group.. aimed at each other..

2006 Eclipse GT.
3.8L SOHC 24v V6
263 hp @ 5750rpm
260 lb-ft @ 4500rpm
6500rpm redline
10.5:1 compression
18/27 MPG
3472 lbs
62/38 front/rear weight dist.

2006 350Z Enthusiast.
3.5L DOHC 24v V6
287 hp @ 6200rpm
274 lb-ft @ 4800rpm
6600rpm redline
10.3:1 compression
20/26 MPG
3197 lbs
53/47 front/rear weight dist.

There's no comparison mechanically.. style is debatable but I'm all for the 350Z's curves. The new Eclipse looks like the offspring of the mid-90's Ford Taurus & Audi TT.. :notgood:

I'll be holding off for the '07 Toyota Supra next year.. which may look something like this:
http://spyphotos.autoblog.com/entry/2509517851773696/
Aimed for a V6 model to target the 350Z and a V8 model to target the Corvette.

Personally, I'm still not the biggest fan. The front looks like an Endeavor/Galant, the handles feel like they're going to break right off (sounds familiar), the chrome wing looks tacky, and the front window needs to be ONE window, and it seems a little underpowered. Unfortunately I doubt there will ever be an AWD Eclipse again because that would compete too much with Evo's. But you know other than all that, not horrible :|

I don't like triangular headlights, and the FWD thing is an issue for me because I am old and set in my ways.
This design should have been the 3G.
But overall, I'm liking it more.
I'd be a little more impressed if I ever saw one on the road. Nothing out here yet, south of Sacramento.

They look too much like a bubble. I'm not impressed by the power output either. Wheres the AWD? Wheres the turbo option? No fun :notgood: Plus, I see them all the time here, 2 counties over is the rich-bi*** spoiled brat county, and I see 16yr olds with brand new mustangs, eclipses, and civics that daddy bought for them. I saw 3 '06 eclipses at the mall earlier today. They just dont seem sporty. I also agree, the 2g was the height of the eclipses reign. Power, styling, not a killer price tag, handling, aftermarket options, it had it all. Then... downhill

That kind of brings me to another point in general. Notice how all the "sports" cars today are all little compacts? When will another 2-door sports car come out that isnt 35k+? Mid 90-s there were TONS. 2g eclipse, rx7, 300zx, supra, 3000gt, 240sx (early 90's). Now they are all 4-door boxes? What gives? Granted, there is the 350z and rx8, but the boxy wrx's and evo's kind of annoy me. I want to see some nice flowing lines, pure sports car look.

IMO: no AWD option + no boost = not an Eclipse. They should have named it (and the 3g something else). If they were smart, they would have made the Mitsubishi FTO the 3g and dropped the 4G63 into it. Then came out with this 4th gen with the 4G63. The 3g was/is such an eyesore...

Since the 3g came out, the Eclipse became a cheerleader-mobile. It's basically a Japanese Grand Am now. The 4g is no different. And it's priced so high that it will probably be the last generation of Eclipse because you can get so much more for the money by shopping elsewhere. Much of Mitusbishi's future in the US rests on the success (or lack of) of this "Eclipse."

I don't understand when sedans became cool... Nobody makes an affordable coupe with BOOST anymore? SRT-4, Evo, WRX, etc. are all sedans. The GTI 1.8t is all that comes to mind with less than 4 doors. Cobalt SS or whatever it's called? No thanks. I'm digressing now.

Personally, I think the car is very ugly. Ive seen a few on the road and cant really tell which end is the front as both look pretty much the same.

No turbo, FWD, worst of all worlds.

Although I agree with what most people are saying... you have to look at it from a car company's point of veiw. Although the 3g was in no way a special car look at how much success it had. I can't drive 2 miles without seeing one of those cars. With the arrival of the Evo, it would be very risky to manufacture two very similar cars with different styling. Personally, I doubt the Eclipse will go back to its glory days. Mitsubishi is targeting a different audience with the Eclipse now. It doesn't matter what group of people buy the car... to them it just matters how much they sell and around here they've been selling very well. As long as it stays successful it'll remain a boring car :notgood:

Okay- the new Supra looks like a bastard child of an Aston Martin and a Viper... not at all attractive in my mind from what I've seen of the "spy shots"

As for the 4g... I've driven a few (either test drives or friends rides) and they are actually really worth while cars. Their interior is WAY ahead of all 3 previous generations in terms of feel and quality. And after driving a 350z and a 4g back to back, the 4g has a much LOWER power band than the 350. The Z has a nice smooth push up into the higher RPM's with no real ball busting push. The 4g definately SLAMS your head into the seat and keeps it there until at least 4800 RPM's and it has the gearing to KEEP it there. It's a hot car. I'd love to own one... And as for who they're marketing... With the 1g there wasn't much marketing. With the 2g it was primarily the middle-aged unisex demographic (mainly women with the Spyder). With the 3g it was the 18-24 year olds and it was mainly girls that bought them up and were able to keep them (remember the 0 down 0 payments for 12 months... yeah.... most guys defaulted on their loans, girls actually paid... go figure?). Now with the emergence of a new luxury sports car line (350z, G35, Lexus GS, etc.) Mitsubishi is stepping up to get a piece of that action, and they did it. This is a sophisticated to the roots type sports car. They have the EVO to satisfy the tuner crowd. And the Eclipse is for the 30 something that wants to pump a lil power into his image at a decent cost.
