id want one more than i want an evo right now
you mean a 99 GSX?

i read somewhere that all mitsubishis are going to have that heinus front grill...oh wait i saw it on car&driver tv....yeah it looks like something mitsubishi stole out of the garbage behind pontiacs "horrid car" design studios

Mitsu should not be dumpster diving over at Pontiac...they're the one's that are bastardizing the GTO. Well, it may have a V8, but it still looks like an old fart's church wagon

Should we start a petition asking Mitsu to stop using the Eclipse badge on ugly ass cars or what. It's bad enough with the 3g's and next we'll have this. What is the world coming to? I think the problem is that Mitsu has the Evo now and if they went back to the 4g63T and especially an AWD model it would most likely be cheaper than the Evo and then that cuts back on Evo sales because they both have the same potential (basically) and the Eclipse would cost less. It would be nice if they came out with a RalliArt model that had the 4g63T and awd, but on a nicer more DSM looking body.

Actually it looks like it is kinda cool. It also looks like the back tires are wider than the front. What ever that could mean.

Well you have to remember when car companies first test their cars they put all kinds of ### crap on the outside to distract you from what the car will really look like. It may come out looking completely awesome. You all say you hate the grill but go and look at an Evo8 in person and tell me you don't like it. I hated the grill when I first saw it in the magazines but when I saw the car I loved it. It's not coming out for 2 years, who knows how many tweaks and redesigns they'll do to it. And for those saying "oh no it's base on the galant, it'll be heavy and ###" the eclipse was always built on the Galant platform. All Eclipses are just galant chassis's with nice 2 door bodies on them. So give Mitsu some credit. They went out of the sports car market just like everyone else did, the SUV craze hit in the late 90's, that's what caused the death of the Supra, 3000GT, RX7, and 300ZX. Now if you look sports cars are coming back. Nissan already released the 350Z, Mazda has the RX8, Toyota has been rumored to be working on the next Supra since it left the US domestic market in 98. Mitsu didn't make the 3G a tubosharged AWD beast because there wasn't a calling in the market for one. Now that other companies are coming out with performance compacts (Dodge SRT4, Mazdaspeed Protoge) maybe Mitsu will come back with a turbo 4cyl FWD priced right with the SRT and an AWD priced a little higher. Then they can still have the N/T for girls who think they're pretty and the turbo's for us guys who like to have fun.

I hate that car. I am ashamed that it bares the name Eclipse. I think it looks like a mix between a grand am and a rsx

i have to agree with everyone that says it looks like a pontiac. where do they find the people that have been designing cars lately. there all ugly. there have been only a few new cars that i actually like the look of.

I have designed better shit patterns in my toilet after taking 24 ex-lax pills. Where has all of the taste gone in this industry? I mean, yea the Evo looks good, but it still doesn't look awesome. The 2nd gen. Eclipse was one of the best looking sports cars for its range ever, and I have never heard anyone argue that. I guess it's cool that car companies target mid-aged women these days. I hate it, now I have to rely on finding low mileage 90-99 DSM's for the rest of my life ;)

It's all in the bottom line. how much time and $ car manufactures are will to put into R&D and re-tooling. Look how long it took to get the EVO to the states and still its over priced for a 4-dr. compact. Dodge has the right concept IMO. A sleeper for dirt cheap(SRT-4 neon). A good base car with lots of potential, boost the aftermarket companies, and keep insurance prices down. How many of you would say #### MITSU if Nissan imported the Skyline GT-R for $25-30K?

Anyone remember the SST they teased us with before they they hired the design team from pontiac and built the 3g?

hmmm...
20 inch wheels
245 tires
4G63 with room for a 3.5 liter 6

NO one except the fanatics and people who ski alot wanted the AWD Eclipse they were only about 5% of sales thru the 2nd gen model run thats why there is no AWD 3rd gen...

Actually they made another pretty sweet car together back then: The Conquest TSi.

I'll never forget trying to pass one on the highway back in the 80's. I was in my 82 Mustang (Capri actually) with the first of the "HO" V8s, (cough). I couldn't pass him. I approached them with a little more respect after that.
