Your opinion of the 2006 eclipse

Well I work at an aftermarket accersories shop. Part of my job is to pick-up and deliver cars. I have driven GTOs, Bentleys 03 Mustang Cobras Several BMWs etc.

I got in not expecting much and that is what I got. The Rockford Fosgate sub hit hard. but the power was not there in the engine. I was NOT driving the GT yet it was a 5 spd. I was pretty dissapointed. The Interior is VERY bland and the outside is ok I hate the Chrome wing. Anyways If anyone has Questions . I dont know if this has been talked about before just thought I would post up. It happened several weeks ago.

Ok, I'm not sure how you would go about that. I used to have a device called snappy that would allow you to dump images from VCR but I dunno about video. I have a AIW vid card and I usually just rip to my hard drive. I would like to see it if you can figure it out thou. Thanks.

It was ok.

They added a custom intake and a muffler and was able to get 14/hp on the dyno.

One of the guys actually did a nice FWD drift as well. I just about shit my pants.

I went and test drove the deluxe one last week. Overall I am impressed. Sitting in it is like sitting in the 2g's they did a good job, the seats are real comfortable and give excellent lower back support and leg support but without making you feel too restricted. The Transmission is too soft for my taste but the six speed does the job. And that leads me to the 6cyl. Wow it scoots, it feels light(it's not but you get the picture) ANYONE who says they'll never buy it because it's a. not an AWD, and b. not a turbo... you need to try it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

My only gripe was the sales kid. He as a 98 TSi AWD with a EVO motor swap (sounded fishy to me) running 450 horse... OK 4g's with 450 horse totally believeable(someone here has one) but he starts talking about how he can run 9's all day long...... Immediately the BS flag is raised, because isn't that good for 12's.... maybe I'm wrong and if I am sorry, but salesmen should know better than to BS a guy that said he's on tuners(me, I told him that to let him know I know my shit) Anyways I'm really thinking about getting it, but not from him... too much BS.

So I'd give the new eclipse a 8/10, the front is still a little ugly, but they brought back the nice fat ass I love so much.

I finally got around to watching the worthless piece of fluff.
The main guy was pretty good- nice that he bashed on FWD, but said the car did pretty good with it, despite. Dismal that they spent a whole segment with some dork deejay telling us how kickin' the Fosgate sound system is. But why no damned shots of the interior? They never showed the dash layout. WTF
The segment on "modifications" was a cold air intake (with some flawed information) and a muffler swap. "You can do those all day for $700".
Nice shot of the tits on the front bumper. Those will do well to remind you you should have stopped back about a foot every time you ram a curb or parking block with one.
As for those complaining about the window pillar- seems that's a bit better than the usual 2G window wobble.
Anyways, the show isn't much worth watching. Far too lightweight for a DSMer.
I'll still digitize it if I ever understand how.

I Saw the last half of it at work. It seemed like nothing but a plug.I didn't hear any real numbers at all. It felt like it was an advertisement for an 04 eclipse.

When they did the dyno the avoided how much hp/tq it got to the wheels. Then they didn't say if the intake/muffler hp gain was at the fly or at the wheels either.

Hm. Well, I'll tell you one thing: you'd sure get to see the stuff you're curious about. Shots from the driver's seat, a good, long look under the chassis, some views from more than just the front and rear 3/4, pictures of how the hatch works and seat adjustments.... the kind of things you actually have to live with in a car.
But I'm afraid it's a good five years before I'd consider buying one. Other people are going to have to pay down a lot of depreciation, first.

One thing, in the commerci... er, show, they did show a nice (though brief) shot of the exhause. All mandrel-bent and big. Looked pretty good, almost like Mits was trying to do it right.

Another thing I saw was the geek showing off the stereo kept shifting into neutral and coasting while he was driving through LA. There are ways of the South that I can't comprehend. WTF

i just saw the 06 eclipse and it think its F@(king ugly just the ass is what i like but the front is a freaking galant and i also hate that god damn window pillar and as for the engine and stuff yeah its powerfull and yeah its fast but they are NO GSX'S OR TSI man mitsu has really killed it by not turboing all these cars and AWD man im dissapointed

I agree that the new Eclipse front is uglier than sin! I would never buy this car because it's aesthetics are that of a drug induced dementia. Their I said it... This cars visual appeal just plain sucks.. Wheel gap, non-flowing lines.. Rip offs of other manufacutures.. Blah..

I have nothing against turbo or AWD (who would) but get real. This car has 263 hp and 260 lb/ft torque. The last thing it needs is a turbo. This car, stock for stock, is just as fast if not faster than the 2g turbo (against a AWD in slippery conditions might be a different story) and probably has massive highway pull w/ that much torque. The electronic valve control gives it the best of both worlds: torquey V8 feel down low, small high-reving F1 feel up high.

As for AWD I would definately rather have it w/ this much power to eliminate torque steer and front-wheel slippage powering out of corners but as Tommy Kendall said in the show it does a pretty good job of hidding its FWD (and AWD would probably push the price up and make this whale almost 2 tons).

What it needs to do is loose some weight. This thing would be a rocket if it lost 300 or so pounds. A heavier more powerful car is usually a more upmarket car and I think that is how Mitsubishi is marketing this car (perhaps a more grownup Eclipse). It seems to me like a highway cruiser or touring car (not necessarily a track or autocross car).

I believe if Mitsubishi can pull out of its slump and come up w/ some development money, there is room to sell a smaller, lightweight turbo and/or AWD car slotted below the 4g Eclipse based on the Evo X. Sort of a Evo but with a much more sporty shape like the beautiful 2G Eclipse/Talon. Maybe call it the Starion or something. I don't think this will happen anytime soon, though.

In the end I still would rather have a GST or GSX (much more easily tuned) but don't discredit this car because it has no turbo or AWD.
