Torchmate 2x2 plasma table
I thought I had everything I needed to cut, but now I need a machine torch or different holder.

That's the sickest weld ever!! :hellyeah:
I've been practicing tig and mig welding on the cheap harbor freight Johnson's. I can't wait to get some good equipment!!! You guys keep me inspired! Thanks

Ok few hours into it, I had to have my dad come help get this cnc table squared up. It's a 2 person job, one to hold it tight and one to bolt it up.
All squared up and tested it moving. No problem there.

Next issue. Came with a machine torch holder and I have a hand torch. So I can't do anything until that gets sorted out and the holiday is near so I won't get to anything until next year I'm sure. :(

On another note, the tweco 141i is a pretty bad ass machine. I'll start a new thread on it, if you guys want to read it.

Waiting on the torch holder, but for testing some zip ties and scrap metal will work

Here are a few pics of my exhaust build over the last few days! I struggled with the torch I had as its far to heavy WP26 so im going to order a WP17 until I get my water cooler then going to a 9 torch! as it put alot of strain on my wrist and shoulder! I was using 1.6 mm filler wire and I should have been using 1.0mm but I ordered the wrong thickness but it still went together ok just didnt get it as flat or as nice as I normally do at work. Fully purged aswell to add to strength.

machine is a 160 amp Tig AC/DC welder pretty good machine and widely used by many top places in the UK so thought why not spend a little more to get a better machine!

overall not bad for a home job and on the floor on axle stands! friend pulled out to help me who had lifts at his work so I made do with what I had.

No nothing at all. I did a little on 1 side then did the other after then let it cool a little. The flanges are ok for welds im just not happy with some of the others!

You sire it's not warped. Bet you it is.

100% sure! it all mated up nicely and everything touch'd and not a single gap! as i said i did a little at a time and then let it cool. checked for leaks after as well and not found a leak yet

How is that welder? What brand? Everlast sells the same one.

Its an R-Tech welding unit, retails for around £900 or $1400, TIG Welder, R-Tech Tig161, AC-DC Inverter TIG Welder AC-DC 240V 160Amp welder is great just the torch is heavy and is a pain to get smooth wrist action due to the weight, the 17 torch apparently is a few KG lighter in a whole so will be nice to maneuver. other then that the machine is great, just going to get a water cooler and i dont think i will ever out grow it on the stuff im needing it for!

Any idea on who makes those Rtec welders?

Happy new year all!
We need our own car fab forum.

Got to play with the torchmate for a bit today, still waiting on a few parts to make the torch handle be steady. Need a smaller collar, so hopefully it shows before the end of the week.

Thumbs up, subscribe and comment please

EDIT: I was thinking with this dice. Would anyone be interested in buying a dice or something similar as a welding project. So you can practice welding without killing time of cutting, drilling etc etc.

I dont no but I could ask them,

that cnc cutter is great, i think when i get my workshop setup this year i would like one! is it easy to program?

maybe show a video of the computer process to show us how it works on that side of it

How easy is it to use? I need something to cut and i dont see a sheer comming anytime soon. Is this what you use to cut your catch cans? And if so how fo you make the edges true? Or fo you just use a guide when cutting? (For a non track cutter)

It's very easy to use actually, thus far. I just starting making cuts a week ago, tried a few catch can parts, but I didn't measure right, so will have to start again. But this is what i'm going to use. I'm going to try a mitsu keychain and see how it comes out.
The edges are pretty straight, although I didn't measure just yet. If the line is straight on the design and the gantry is lined up it shouldn't be an issue. Doesn't matter if the metal isn't straight at all.

Ohhhh you use a template and the gantry moves around it ? Is this computerized?

Design is done on my laptop with their software. Some places have free files, but yes it's basically a template. Then you tell it how to cut it (automatically done kind of) then hook the laptop to the CNC machine. There are cables that connect each motor to a control box, and a usb cable to the laptop. Then you use the laptop and their other software and it cuts.

Before I'm judged too harshly, Keep a few things in mind. Long story short, I was trying to make a mig weld look like a tig weld on some scrap stainless I had around. The welder was a 110v hobart wire feed with C25 gas. I know this isn't the right gas, just wanted to see if I could do it. The other thing was the fact that I probably had no business operating a welder at the time. A cop buddy came over to pick up a headlight I was refinishing for him and we did a breathalyzer test shortly after I did these. I honestly don't think it's all that bad after blowing a 0.24 BAC. Probably wont be playing with equipment like that while drinking again though...
