Lol, I've been telling you this for MONTHS. I get the same reaction from everyone, doesn't sound like a good upgrade, blah blah blah, then they do it and say the same thing, why didn't i do it sooner!

I don't have a diversion to do the upgrade to, but if i did I would make a video for you guys. It's really straight forward, just undo the 85 screws on the case and it's straight forward from there. Hard part is needing to figure out what to do with the cables. Unplug it or cut it, or add your own connection to the front of the machine. I took my original torch apart completely and made it look as clean as possible on the new torch. Took about an hour to from start to finish.

85 screws huh? F that LOL

I didn't say it wouldnt be a good upgrade. I was just busy with other stuff and too lazy to commit the paypal transfer LOL. Glad i did now. The dual flow regulator looks of utmost quality. I'm stoked.

I can't wait to hook it up. Again will be hard finding time with a crying baby all night. Shes a cutie though.

What do you mean you made the oem torch look as clean as possible? Did you completely remove the hand switch wire and gas line I'm guessing? I'm fine with foot pedal, i might have to go back to the oem diversion torch or wait to switch til after i start/finisj the cage. Foot pedal in caged car=nightmare. Hand control in caged car=much easier.

Maybe I'll do a video, since I'm doing it anyway, whos up for a learning experience with me?

I took the "spring" supports off the end of the oem torch and put it on the new one so there isn't a large hole in the front of the machine. You will see.
Maybe guy can put the cover with finger controls on the new torch?

Gamble I have a question for you.

I am looking for a welder for my buddies, younger brother, he wants to get into pipe welding. And I can invite him over to practice at my place but when I am out if town. He is out of luck. So he needs a decently priced machine.

So on to the question. You have a Thermal Arc 186 (which I know is not your favorite LOL) can you please weld a few E6010 1/8th welding rod and tell me if it can run it? Not all inverter machines can run these rods (regardless of manufacturer, some millers/lincolns cant weld these rods)

So could you please try a few rods out and tell me if, it cuts out a lot, or doesn't like whipping.

It's not a bad machine at all, just for the price there are better ones out there. The longevity 200ex is damn near identical, but has more options for stick.

I can try to do some 6010 beads. If I go to the hardware store this weekend I'll let you know if they have any. However I have to tell you that I am NOT a stick welder by any means. And i know there is a huge debate on which way to run 6010 and some machines have a 3rd dinse. So which polarity would you want me to try it on?

Electrode positive.

So + on the stinger, and - for ground clamp

With 6010 you have to step the rod, kinda like a pause, then whip forward, pause, and repeat. Some welders light out between whips.

And I noticed from Gambles Youtube reviews that the thermal arc control panel looks very similar to the longevity.

And if you guys could test it that would be super cool!

Yes I'll see what I can do if i can find the rod. I think I have some 1/8" steel left, do you want a hot start? what amperage? I noticed that the 186 burns a little hotter than the longevity side by side. The longevity has more features, but when i read the book it didn't really tell you much about them. I think you can even use pulse for stick welding on both of these.

I usually run around 85 amps with an 1/8th rod. And yes try the hot start.

Thanks again.

I can't find any reviews or info about how it handles 6010 rod, I guess people do t like stick welding LOL

Gamble, do you guys sell that flux paste for purging (so you dont have to use argon? I'm in need of a tank upgrade but until then I'd rather not worry about sugaring my manifolds LOL.

You devil you sending me this HTP booklet with all these goodies. Plasma cutters. I didn't mnow the w24 torch was smaller then the 9!!
And you habe a micro torch thats pretty cool. I took the handle off the wp9 and I'm wondering where the connection is at the torch head to torch body if you can change that part out for different HTP heads.

This.

And since this is the same connection as the miller. I dont get why it would be a problem like you were saying to swap heads?? Or is it simply cause you sell them torch head and cable in one package?

For instance the CK flex lock (different than your swivel) comes as a head thats 10 minute swappable. At that nut in the picture that goes direct to the gas line.

I dont see why they couldnt run a 6010, thats just a fast freeze rod? What are the forceen problems with that rod to inverters? We strictly used 7018 at school but the teachers didn't seem to habe an issue welding with 6010 on our synchrowaves.

Spoon man. It's called reverse polarity:)

Tig is normally straight polarity (tungsten negative) so the material is hot charged rather than the electrode.

I love stick welding but dont have a machine capable of it right now. I'm certified SMAW but honestly never used 6010 because i wasnt doing over head. Any reason you want the 6010 specifically?

6010 is tricky, not all machines can run it.
We don't have the paste.

We only sell the swivel head, never had a flex lock. But I can tell you that the power cable on the swivel head and flex lock are different than the one you have. you can buy the heads by themselves, but it's cheaper to get it all together.

24 is a small torch, but doesn't use a back cap. The micro torch is the same way. I never used either, but don't really see a need for them.

Unscrew the fitting on the gas line and your torch head comes out then you can put the 17 head on it. Your gas line is your power cable. It's a 1 piece hose design. Gas and power go through the same hose. Same with lincoln precision tigs with flow through connections.

On the swivel head you can change the heads out if you want. But no matter what you change it to, it's still a swivel head. Don't think we even have the other heads though. And the swivel head isn't all that great. Not for your main torch.

im sorry if this has been answwered , i browsed the thread but could not find what i was looking for, im looking to pickup a welder for home, i have 99% of my experience on a MIG but would LOVE to be able to TIG also and weld aluminum , i never cared much for a spool gun which brings me to my question. is there a budget welder that can do both mig and tig? ive seen the 200sx used alot in here when under a budget but i definately want to be able to mig for small/quick projects that dont require the final results to be a work of art and dont need hours of welding invested into it , i would love to stay under 1500 if possible under 1000 would be even better

Compression- Your seeming to get the hang of tig welding pretty quick from the last shitty pics u posted to that amazing what 12 inch long bead on your last pic..:thumb: good job man

=D the more you practice I guess.

Best 2 things ive done for practice so far is, get a comfortable torch setup, and the biggest argon bottle I could afford. I went through the 80 in no time ive had the 330 for well over 3 months and havent had to refill it yet!

I don't do much manual welding anymore (we have121 robots that I program to weld) but I needed to put a bung on my exhaust. Its been probably 2-3 years since I have done any manual tig welding on austenitic stainless, but I think it turned out ok.
